Nice Streaming Device
This device is a nice Streaming device. It's basically a mini Nvidia shield. It runs Android TV OS so one must have knowledge of how to sideload apps/apks not available in Play store. If you have Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon or the like subscriptions this is plug and play and all apps will perform as developers intended with included remote and will have optimal playback (Dolby, HDR,etc). If you're looking to get away from the stock Android OS devices then try this device. And unlike the typical stock Android boxes Mi box receives updates. Plus you can add storage if so inclined. Purchased this for guest bedroom. Have Nvidia shields as primary streamers in home and was pleasantly surprised by this device. Also imo has more functionality than a Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon fire stick 4k devices as it's open Android TV OS that can be sideloaded with apps/apks that your can not add or will not function of you add to the other like devices mentioned. There is no sound from the box using hdmi or aux audio out. Bluetooth and video are working. Pain to install third party apps. Not a friendly interface. To change anything in settings you have to get out of the app make changes and get back to watching. Bluetooth will not reconnect to the previously connected device. Have to pair every time before start watching. Would not buy again. Better spend little more and get Minix. Never had these types of problems with two Minix boxes. Mi-Box is just what the doctor ordered!!
I love my mi-box!! After you get it jailbroken, I have a friend who did it for me, it was easy to set up and manuever. It works better if you have a good/high speed on your internet. So glad I bought a second one for my other tv but, if you only have one, you can move it to another tv, in your house/same internet address. XiaoMi Mi Box S is Useless due to overheating
This highly hyped TV box is a piece of junk, like many other cheap Chinese Andriod TV boxes. Yes, like all of them, easy to set up and easy to use, but useless. It overheats very quickly and becomes unresponsive in minutes and hangs there for good. To confirm that it was not due to slow internet traffic, I compare it side-by-side with a Google phone playing the same movie from the same source (Disney +), using the same wifi network, and casting to the same TV (different HDMI inputs). It was not the internet or router, but the overheated box. After cooling down for about 10 minutes, it works again for a few minutes. nice solid android box
The build quality is good. The remote and box feel solid. The user interface is good and responsive. I bought this mainly to stream YouTube videos and play media from my library and this box does the job. However, it's a little work to play your own media files. You will need to download a 3rd party app, like VLC, to do that. Also this box is picky about the format of your external drive. It recognizes ExFAT if you format it with another computer. It won't recognize FAT32 unless you let the box format it. Go figure. But if you let the box format it, you won't be able to manage the files manually. All file transfers must be done through the box if the box formatted your drive. Otherwise, it won't see your files. I do have privacy concerns with all the tracking this box does but that's more to do with the apps, Android and Google. But what're you gonna do.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Hard to set up, only few apps
It's not easy to setup, you need a Google account and a phone or computer to do it. Also you need an account for each app you want to use. Great box needs better WIFI service
It works great except when using WIFI with HDHomerun. I guess I will have to run ethernet directly to the box with the adapter to get it to work properly. It doesn't work even with a WIFI extender to help boost the signal.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
