A marvelous oldie of the Mussorgsky classic - dramatic and very colorful in Ansermet's piquant style.
An older but marvelous recording of Mussorgsky's Pictures and Prokofiev's Lt. Kije. Ansermet's musical portrayals of a group of paintings are sharp and vividly performed. Most of all, in the final "picture," "The Great Gate of Kiev," notice the beautiful organ that Ansermet inserts into the score. Very dramatic with the bells and tam tam.
