If you, and not your team, are footing the bill for your upgrades this season, consider replacing your ill-fitting saddle with the Aliante R3. Though the R3's TwinFlex is made from nylon and fiberglass, as opposed to the carbon of the R1, most self-sponsored cyclists will likely find the modest difference in flex offset by the R3's more accessible price.
Saddles are personal. I've been riding the Specialized Romin EVO Expert for over 11,000 miles. However, after hip replacement surgery, the spot under my new hip became too uncomfortable, even during shorter rides. So, here is my evaluation for how I decided on this saddle and how it works for me. I first used Fizik's fitting system on its web site. I am not very flexible, I ride lots of miles each week, and I weigh 200 lbs. So, the Large R3 was one of only a couple saddles the web site recommended. None of my LBS's carry Fizik so buying on-line required a real leap of faith. This seat works for me. Not squishy, just enough padding for longer distances, no pressure points. I am relieved, and pleased.
