Huge Power In A Small Box?
To feed my power demanding PSB Image T6 tower speaker is not an easy task. This little amp performance with them is amazing. Soundstage is spacious. clean and musical. This is a well built small amp with plenty of power to drive any load. Also runs cool and less heat means that the amp employs most of the power to produce music rather than heat. There's watts, then theres quality of watts.
I've owned primarily Carver(TFM 35 and 35X), Rotel (RB 1050) and Sony ES units for some time. Both have been very reliable and have good sonics. I was looking for something compact, I've heard of Parasound but never really gave them a chance. I bit the bullet and purchased one. I initially bought the Version 2 of this amplifier, and I was floored especially after listening to my NHT SB3 and SB2's (both have modified crossovers, Film and Foil). There is the absence of grit on the high frequencies and with my NHT, they lean to the ever slight to the left of neutral (dark). I liked it so much I took a chance on purchasing the HCA 750A and HCA 1000, which are both better than my Carvers and Sony ES amplifers, the sound staging being the most evident. This Version 3 has more capacitance and has the same qualities as the bigger siblings, but to get the most out of it, use a 12 gauge power IEC cable, yes, it makes a very noticeable difference. For the $100 that I paid for this amp, it runs circles. And one more thing, I also own Magnepan speakers that are notoriously power hungry and both this and the V2 of this amplifier had no problems running them with ease...not once did I clip them. The V2 is 45 watts at 4 ohms, this V3 is 60 watts at 4 ohms. Parasound does have a very consistent "House" sound, every model I have has very similar characteristics, the wattage rating being the biggest differentiator. All of my Parasound units also have very consistent DC Bias. I plan on getting more of these, these are a steal for their price.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
