Drive your crazy machines with this module
Tamiya has an extensive line of mechanical building toys for young people. I think anyone applying to an engineering school should be required to build some of these machines as they are such good teaching tools. Power units such as this one are intended to operate simple machines that a child could build. Either or both of the included two drive wheels can be configured to make a pair of legs that would sort of walk across the floor (with a battery compartment added.) Made of gluable plastic, it has 12 different possible speeds using either 1.5 volts (one flashlight battery, AAA, AA, C, or D cell) or can run off 3 volts using two batteries. Battery holders are available from Tamiya which power drives like this one Certainly suitable for any youngster of middle school age, or any one who ... I hope someone does a book (in English) showing some of the ways the line of Tamiya units can be used. But their catalog gives additional information. This particular model, which they call the model 190 may now be discontinued, but eBay sellers still have them as of writing this. However, Tamiya has several similar drives at comparable prices.
