"Doctor Who: Season 4" is a part of a long running British science fiction television show. This series depicts the adventures of a time traveling, humanoid alien that drops in on human affairs and frequently saves people from other alien interference. He is only known as the Doctor, and he uses his TARDIS, a sentient time machine, to travel through time and space. "Doctor Who: Season 4" is the final season that David Tennant played as the 10th incarnation of the Doctor. The Doctor's faithful companion, Donna Noble, was played by Catherine Tate. The six-disc set includes the 14 regular episodes plus two bonus episodes. The bonus episodes are "Time Crash," which aired on November 16, 2007, and "Voyage of the Damned," which aired on December 25, 2007. The executive producer for this six-disc set of "Doctor Who: Season 4" was Russell T. Davies. Sydney Newman, CE Webber, and Donald Wilson originally created this science fiction drama.

A Little Bit Let Down
I'm an enormous Doctor Who fanatic! No ... seriously ... I mean, BIG. So, suffice it to say, while I adore the show, I was saddened by the fact that this DVD collection DOES NOT contain the episodes that lead to David's regeneration to Matt. Those are in a completely different set called "The Complete Specials". So ... now, I have to buy THAT set. :(

Doctor Who Season 4, follows the title character, The Doctor (David Tennant), and his companion Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) across the universe in typical Tardis fun one expects from the show. For those that wish to start on the show Season 4 is not for you (although I do suggest Season 1 with Christopher Eccelston and Billie Piper respectively which are FANTASTIC!). Donna Noble returns from her one-shot appearance last season and continues to be in a older sister type role to The Doctor. Although Season 4 isn't the best of Tennant tenure as the Doctor its far from the worse. Memorable episodes include Silence in the Library, The Doctor's Daughter, Planet of the Odd, and the Season Finale which brings back many familiar faces old and new in The Stolen Earth and Journey's End. Tennant ... The Duo work well together and if viewers were put off by her in Season 3 (like I was) she is redeemed a few times during the season. Like any other season of Who, this season is filled with moments that are both memorable and essential for future episodes of the show (such as The End of Time special). While the season doesn't make me want to rant and rave with each episode, it is solid all the way through.

I'd have given it an EXCELLENT except for finale.
I bought this because of all the extras. I had already watched the 4th Season via the Internet. I didn't have the Confidentials, the outtakes, etc. ALL I can say is 1)We'll miss David Tennant when he changes/"Regenerates" December 2009 although I think Matt Smith will be an excellent replacement 2)I believe alot of us will be OVERJOYED to have a new producer on-board in the form of Steve Moffatt(sp) replacing the oft self-indulgent, agenda wonk Russell T.Davies. RTD is one of those people that doesn't believe in the right time to end something. He always wants to insert just one more tning into a story making it often rushed and confused (as was the last two episodes of this season)... When you have such BRILLIANT stories like the two-part "Silence in the Library/Forrest of the Dead" , ... I bought this because of all the extras. No character development. Quantity over Quality. If one gets to see some of the specials, "Planet of the Dead" is another example of Davies need to satisfy himself before a good story-line everytime. Overall, this was a great season. Catherine Tate SUPRISED alot of us as being perhaps the BEST companion of the new series. So many were worried that she'd fall back on schtick from her TV Comedy show. I'm glad to hear that SHE will get a chance to RE-appear in the Season Finale' along with her "grand pa", 80 year old Bernard Cribbins as "Wilf". Worth the money I paid for it (25 bux free s&h) As the title sez, I'd have given the overall season an EXCELLENT except fot the finale. (sigh).

I've enjoyed several of these episodes with the 10th Doctor and Donna, and was very happy to find series 4. It was brand new and a very good price. One of my favorite episodes is "The Unicorn and the Wasp." Glad to own it!
