I bought this to have in my coleection because it was a huge part of when I first started surfing as a young kid, around 6 years old. I always looked up to my brother and his friends who started surfing then and 10 years older than me and the characters in the movie are around that age. This is what I looked up to and wanted to be a great surfer like them. It's a blast each time to watch this. I know parts of the movie with the surfing scenes are so fake and cheesy, like conversations they were having in the line up, sitting with a blue screen behind them like their in the water. But the actual surfing clips show that era of big wave riding and it's another chance to have those clips on film. Plus, the babes are just as hot then and each time period has it's own way of featuring the smokin beach girls. You can't go wrong with a beach honey! Enjoy!Read full review

I bought this DVD because I haven't seen "Ride The Wild Surf" in a long time and I enjoyed it as a surfing movie. The Surf music soundtrack also makes the film great to watch especially at the end when you hear Jan & Dean's great rendition of the title song. The Special Features include trailers of other surfing films and a skateboard one that I enjoyed watching. Overall, the DVD was worth buying.
Ride the Wild Surf was released around the same time as The Endless Summer 1964. The Huge Hawaiian surf is the star, the actors and story are secondary. Greg Noll and Mickey Dora were the surfing doubles for Jim Mitchum and Fabian in the film. Shot in Hawaii and at LA's (Secos) Leo Carrillo State Beach the surfing is authentic. The shots of surfboards mysteriously floating back to their owners after horrific wipeouts is pure dunk tank magic! Music by Jan and Dean makes you want to "Get that one last ride". This film is probably the best Hollywood attempt at a movie involving surfing in the 60's. John Milius' Big Wednesday in 1978 got closer to the mark. surfcrazy
