About this product

Product Information

The bicentennial production of Jane Austen's novel is given the most lavish treatment yet, by UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS director Simon Langton in this television mini-series. PRIDE AND PREJUDICE stars Jennifer Ehle (POSSESSION) as Elizabeth Bennet, a witty and headstrong young woman in 19th century England. When she meets the standoffish Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth), they initially clash, but there may be something deeper behind their animosity. Firth (BRIDGET JONES' DIARY) sets the standard for period film heroes with his portrayal of Mr. Darcy, a character sure to make both minds and hearts race. The classic novel of manners, society, and love includes much of Austen's rich commentary on human nature, and features extensive, gorgeous location shooting in and around historic English country homes.

This is the title of Jane Austin’s book

I can not see how this film could be improved. The first half follows the book exactly. Many do object to the lake scene, but it works to show Mr. Darcy’ s softer side. From the time Colin Firth comes on the scene until the end he embodies Mr. Darcy. His use of his eyes and face to rely his feelings without dialogue is pure genius . This film made me a firm fan of Mr. Firth’s The set I received had a beautiful book which has enhanced the total experience

  • A&E movie follows the book, has nice costumes, settings, and actors.

A&E carefully chose settings and clothing for the era. This early long version of the movie is overall better than the newer 2 hour movie, including following the book more closely. The book included with the limited edition DVD set is an interesting read. My one complaint is there are no subtitles for older viewers trying to follow the period correct accents of the actors.

  • This is the best depiction of Jane Austin's classic ... Pride & Prejudice. Very true to the book and inkeeping with the era it was written.

This CD package is AWESOME! There are 3 CDs. The first 2 are the series. The 3rd is interviews with some of the actors and producers and director after 10 years. It is my favorite show to watch.

  • Yes, the DEFINITIVE version!

The quality of the acting, costuming, filming, okay, everything about this production is famously top-notch. I had not planned to watch this when it was originally released, but I was hooked while channel-surfing past it, and have watched it every time it came on my local PBS station since. So it was high time I got my own copy, and this set was an excellent choice. The bonus DVD has some nice--not spectacular--but pleasant features. But the accompanying book gives some good insights into the process of bringing the work to life, the casting choices, locations, etc, as well as an interview with Colin Firth that really helped illuminate the process by which he created his Darcy. If you loved the series--which I did--all of this will be interesting to you, too. I hope you enjoy it as ...
