About this product

Product Information

Demons in the form of lovely young women lead dishonorable men to their deaths. One particularly beautiful demon meets and falls in love with an honorable young soldier (William Shatner). Her older sister (also a demon) is outraged and conjures (in a stirring scene) their fierce brother, who brutalizes Shatner's sister. A haunting, breathtakingly photographed tale of good and evil, love and revenge, INCUBUS also has the odd distinction of being filmed entirely in Esperanto, the language created in 1887 to facilitate easy communication between people of different cultures. Director Leslie Stevens was a frequent contributor to the original OUTER LIMITS television series.

  • Incubus: Rare cult class is a must watch.

Big fan of Captain Kirk. Come on you gotta tip your hat to a great career for William Shatner. Form the Roger Corman era to star trek tv series and movies and all the other in betweens this one is one of my favorites. Released in 1965. It is definitely a cult classic. It is in black and white and shot by academy award winning cinematographer Conrad L.Hill ( American Beauty, Butch and the Sundance Kid). The esthetic of the film adds to the story as if they are part of the characters in the film. A definite watch for any film fan from any genre.

  • Creepy little thriller in Esperanto!

This week’s movie was the unique 1966 horror film “Incubus,” which is usually remembered for the director’s odd choice to film it in the artificial language of Esperanto. William Shatner stars as a noble soldier who has returned home to recover from his injuries. He becomes the target of a succubus who has tired of luring evil men to their deaths, and now wants to try corrupting a good man. When she fails, she arouses an incubus to take revenge on the soldier’s innocent sister. Beautifully photographed in spite of its low budget, this is a haunting and atmospheric little thriller.

  • A Wild and Unique Ride!!

A must see for all fans of Shatner and The Outer Limits. Spoken in the Esperanto language, so it is all subtitled. The back story of how this film was lost and found again 30 years later is a crazy thing indeed! Essentially a good vs evil story concerning a witch looking to impress her older sister by taking the soul of a good and virtuous man played by a pre-Star Trek William Shatner. The photography and shot composition are the real stars of the film. Conrad Hall and William A. Fraker are master craftsman here. Both went on the achieve legendary status and multiple awards. I highly recommend on subsequent viewings, to listen to the commentary tracks and check out the bonus interviews, as they have a wealth of information about the shooting and directing of this classic. Even though the ...

  • Incubus

An unusual take on the standard God-vs.-the Devil theme...I didn't see it coming right away. As might be imagined, much of the dialogue sounded more like series of Esperanto words spoken phonetically rather than real conversations among the actors, although in those scenes where William Shattner recites his lines as if he were actually speaking the language, I was surprisingly impressed by his smooth delivery...Chapeau ! to the future Kirk. It's too bad there are no optional Esperanto subtitles, though...it would have been a nice addition.

  • WHERE ELSE YOU GONNA GET ESPERANTO?

Cool movie. I like the poor-man's Igmar Bergman approach to this production. The extra interview with the film's makers is a great addition. The restoration is excellent - they had to reconstruct this from a French-subtitled print. If only they could find another print so that the subtitles could be less intrusive to the picture frame.
