Nice camera and very fair price
I have a lot of old Hi 8 tapes and it's hard to find a player for them. This one works great and, if you aren't going digital, would be a good pick. I'm using it to digitize my Hi8 tapes using an ADVC 300 converter.

Sony TRV66 & TRV87 Handycam Vision
These are the most feature rich Hi8 / Hi8XR hybrid units Sony built circa 2000. I have two of each now and although I also have a Canon ZR80 miniDV and a brand new JVC 30GB HD Cam I would not give up any of my Sonys. I purchased my first TRV66 brand new after researching everything Sony offered at the time. As NRA's Heston remarked about handguns .. you'd have to pry my TRV 87s & 66s from my cold dead hands! They are picture and sound competitive today though no USB or Firewire connectivity as not available then.These are the most feature rich Hi8 / Hi8XR hybrid units Sony built circa 2000. I am very pleased to have found this used camcorder to complete the transfer of my video archives from Hi8 to my laptop for editing. The camcorder, a Sony CCD TRV66, is was very good condition when I received it and it works wonderfully as I would want it to. It permits me to output video through my S cable as well as through standard AV cables. It is so very simple to operate when transferring video to my laptop. However, I have not moved in the direction of capturing new footage with it in this stage of using it. Therefore, I cannot confirm or deny what others have written about the strengths or weaknesses of the TRV66 in the capture process.
