New Zealand-born Ellory Elkayem's EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS is a ridiculously irreverent romp that pays homage to American b-movies of the 1950s. Set in the nearly bankrupt mining town of Prosperity, Arizona, the film opens with the timely return of Chris McCormack (David Arquette). On the outskirts of town, a spider-loving eccentric discovers that water from a nearby river has a steroid-like effect on his tiny creatures. Unfortunately, that's because it has been contaminated by a toxic substance. It isn't long before the now-monstrous spiders are terrorizing Prosperity's townspeople. Taking refuge in the Prosperity Mall, Chris and his fellow cohorts--the beautiful Sheriff Sam Parker (Kari Wuhrer), her kids Mike (Scott Terra) and Ashley (Scarlett Johansson), Deputy Pete (Rick Overton), and paranoid radio DJ Harlan (Doug E. Doug)--search for a way to destroy the gigantic monsters before they are destroyed. Handpicked by producers Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, writer-director Elkayem rises to the challenge. He successfully retains the lighthearted, low-budget feel of similar-toned 1950s classics (TARANTULA, THEM!) and merges it with a modern, big-budget aesthetic, to create an outrageously fresh contribution to the "mutant bug" genre.

Dishonest seller. Bathing suit was advertised as new. It arrived with hair in the hygienic tape. It was promptly returned through eBay with tracking. The seller accused me of not returning the item however I received delivery confirmation with tracking. Days later seller sent an aggressive email to me and marked package return to sender accusing me of getting a free bathing suit that I don’t want. Buyer beware!

Not a "dishonest seller", see all previous and current feedback. A tracking number was ever provided to me and package as never received back. As of today I still do not have this item back. This item was brand new with the tag when it was sent out and the measurements (from the manufacturer) were included in the listing. A message was sent to buyer that I never received the item back. I counted it as a loss and all items are now photographed and video taped during packaging.

    Entertaining and action packed

    This is more of a B movie, but my little guy LOVES it (he's 4). Probably too violent for kids his age, with guns and giant spiders. Basically, after a toxic waste spill, spiders start growing to ridiculous sizes (5-10 feet tall) and gradually take over a town. Lots of humor and action, killer giant spiders, bad teens on motorcycles, cute woman cop, rasta DJ warning of aliens coming, big explosions near the end, pretty much all the elements of a B movie, complete with slick production. My kid picked it out from a rack at the local record store and then it got lost. We had to buy another copy (ebay) because he liked it so much. Now he has moved on to karate movies.

    Mammoth comfort cheeziness

    Eight Legged Freaks does to Arachnophobiac's what Jaws did at the beach! This time it is on land and very creepy, with humor oozing all over. It is a throwback to classics from the Black and White cult era. Always a fun film to go to on a dark stormy night!

    All hail the B movie!

    If you like Tremors, this is right up your alley. Unashamedly pays homage to the great B movies of the 1950's, particularly Tarantula. There are some great spider effects, including a monstrous Tarantula and a formidable queen spider. There is a nubile, yet-to-be discovered Scarlet Johansson. The script is rather weak, but when have you ever seen a well-scripted B movie? The two do not go together. This was, I believe, Elkayem's first major picture and is light years better than either of his Night of the Living Dead flicks (though both are charming in their own way). Also recommeded is the spider short Larger than Life which is also found on the DVD, and which later spawned this film. Elkayem is yet another New Zealand director, who's getting his start much like Peter Jackson did (low ...
