  • Very Through Guide for Painting Portraits

The book was very helpful for the specific project that I am doing. The author provides a thorough description of the planes of the face, shadows, and how t mix colors to get various shades of skin tones. The only disappointing thing was the author seems to be trying to use his "system" to sell his own line of paints to mix light-, mid-, and dark tonal values. I suspect you can use neutral grays (0 through9) to get the same effect. This book was published in 1999 so his paints may even no longer be available.
