It is my hope that with all the mediocre horror movie re-makes being released these days, most people will become interested enough to go back and purchase the original versions of the re-makes they watch (i.e. When a Stranger Calls, The Hills Have Eyes, Dark Water, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc). Tobe Hooper's "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is a classic, flawlessly executed horror film - a true masterpiece of the genre. Even though a lot of the movie takes place in broad daylight, and there is no significant amount of graphic violence, this film is remembered as one of the bloodiest horror movies ever. This is due to Tobe Hooper's brilliant direction, where everything is suggested, yet not much really happens on camera. The most memorable thing about this movie is just how WEIRD it is; not because of the storyline, but because it naturally evokes a feeling of weirdness, disorientation, and unease. The characters are well-developed, and Marilyn Burns delivers one of the most accomplished performances in the history of horror cinema. If you liked the 2003 re-make of this film, it is essential that you purchase the original; you will be more than pleasantly surprised at its infinite ability to disturb and amaze you. Two thumbs up!Read full review
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a horror masterpiece, is probably the best example of true horror I've seen since phyco or silence of the lambs. I've never really been a horror movie person until a few years ago, and had I not seen this movie, I might have just given up on horror flicks. so heres the review on my opinion of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre... The storyline The movie begins with the five friends driving across the hot Texas landscape on their way to check up on the family grave, onthe count that a large amount of grave robbings have tken place over the last few weeks. Along the way they meet and decide to pick up a crazy hitch hiker, who later becomes a big problem in a way that he slits his hand open and thens takes and burns one of the five friends picture, and on top of the trouble he has already caused, he take a strait edge razor blade and turns it on Franklin who is wheelchair bound, the hitch hiker gets the boot and they continue their journy. when they arrive at the family home stead, two of the friends, Pam and Kirk, decide to visit the swimming hole, their couriosity gets the best of them when they decide to check out what looks to an empty house, unfortunate for them they get the not so happy welcome of leatherface. Franklin and Jerry meet the same fate soon after, with it just being herself, sally fights for survival and eventualy makes a desperate escape in the back of a truck which takes you into the conclusion of the movie. The atmosphere The movie does a great job of utilizing the effectiveness of dead silence, such as during the scene when Franklin dies, the atmosphere is so quiet, so that when leatherface comes in it actually amplifies the sound of the saw so much that it blasts you with the impact, you can almost fill it!it really is incredible. When you you really listen and you have the volume up, you can hear all of this wierd machinery that will freak you out, but I don't get it, its just machinery. The conlusion In conlusion to my long winded review, I would recommend this to anyone who is a real horror movie junky, or anyone who likes movies, its got a little bit of every thing, get it and enjoy it, because I know you will.Read full review
