When Pikmin was first released for the Nintendo Gamecube, I was not very interested in the game. In fact, never liked RTS games too much. They were always hard for me to get into. Now some years later, I decided to take the chance on this one (after all, it had really good reviews) and will have to say that it's THE BEST $8 game I've ever owned, and probably will always be. While I'm really liking the game, I have noticed one thing that's not suiting me well, the length of game. With just several hours of gameplay, the game is almost done! I'm not that good (or am I?). The gameplay is very solid as you meet and build new Pikmin. The 3 different types of Pikmin allow you to make your way through the few stages to gather the parts to the lead characters' broken down ship. Each Pikmin have their own skills/specialty which in turn must be stragetically used to gather each and every part. It's an addictive game and would highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys RTS games. I guess this means I'll be in search for Pikimin 2.Read full review
It's a fun game. You command up to 100 tiny plant things that do whatever you say. The time limit i the biggest fault. I want more time to have fun with my Pikmin. The new play control version is the superior of the two versions in terms of controls. I do not like the camera controls but with the Wii remote you can point your cursor anywhere. You're able to go back to previous days in this version. I hope there's a switch version soon. The camera in incredibly unruly, good luck trying to see. But when you can see the world is absolutely stunning. You will become attached to the Pikmin, you will experience emotion if you lose one.

Being a fan of the Pikmin series and having played the original Pikmin game on GameCube I felt that this game in New Play Control is a nice improvement. However, this game is different from most other games in its game play. It is played day by day in the game, however there are only 30 days in total to play in the story mode. This can make the story seem short lived. Also the Pikmin, which are little flower like creatures, have to at times battle with larger foes, many of which enjoy eating them. So those who are sensitive in these matters would need to be taken into consideration. But overall if you have played the original Pikmin on GameCube and enjoyed it, then likely you will enjoy this game. The controls are updated, but once you get used to them then it is easier to play.
Firstly, know that if you've already played Pikmin for the Gamecube there's not much new here, except for the controls. I would have preferred if Nintendo put both Pikmin and Pikmin 2 on the disc. I certainly would not have paid the full $30 for this game (which is why I bought it on ebay). But I suppose they will release Pikmin 2 with new play control later to make more money, since leeching the pockets of loyal fans is Nintendo's new business model. That said, Pikmin is still a great game, and as an RTS game the point-and-click interface works wonderfully with the Wii's controls (which makes you wonder where Pikmin 3 is). And although the game is fairly linear with a 30 "day" (basically a fifteen minute mission) time constraint, there is some replay value as its always fun to go back and try to beat your best time. For those who never played Pikmin on Gamecube, I'd give this a 5/5 excellent. If you've already played the game however, I can't recommend it unless you find a good deal on a used copy. Nothing new here to justify the $30, in my opinion.Read full review
After getting sucked into Pikmin 3 with my nephew, I decided I needed the prequels. Glad to say this arrived in a very timely fashion and the game plays flawlessly! Looking forward to some quality game time with my favorite nine year old!

I had always been interested in this game and since I was able to find a fairly cheap copy I decided to give it a try.The game follows the story of Captain Olimar who has just crash landed on a strange planet. His ship parts have been scattered across the planet and he has 30 days to find them. He then finds these odd plant-like creatures which he calls pikmin. So essentially, the object of the game is to gather these parts with the help of the pikmin. All of this may seem very strange and honestly it is, but the game has an undeniable charm and is very entertaining. However the restriction of the 30 day period of the game can be kind of stressful and balancing the acts of building your pikmin army and finding parts is a bit difficult. In all I am glad that I purchased the game and although I have yet to get very far in it I can already tell that it will be a unique and fun experience.Read full review

This is our 2nd Pikmin game. They are my 7 year old son's favorite. He's got the rest of the family playing it too.

The original Pikmin was an underrated game on The GameCube back in 2001. Now it seems to be suffering the same fate. The title and cover suggest a cutesy and shallow game experience for the very young ones only. However this is an in-depth real time strategy game that is a lot of fun and I'm a big fan of games like Starcraft and even Warcraft 3! It is certainly far from shallow! The Wii controls on this game work perfectly and complement the game well. Overall If you missed it on Gamecube (or finished it back in 2001 like me) this is your chance to enjoy an amazing game experience and at this price, it's a steal! Actually when I passed this version a couple weeks ago I immediately started playing it again from the beginning, no breaks with other games, and then I passed it and immediately started playing it again, each time passing it at a better time. You won't want to put it down! I know I sure didn't. Now I can't wait until they release Pikmin 2 for the "New Play Control" series!Read full review
Of all the Pikmin games I think this one is my favorite. The time constraint the whole time really gives it an exciting feel the whole time. While Pikmin 2 may have some superior mechanics this is one is still my favorite.
