I was using the Curve 8900 before purchasing this phone. I wanted a full on qwerty keyboard instead of a virtual one like the Iphone or the HTC MyTouch. The 3G internet is much faster than the EDGE. I liked the Blackberry because I can link my multiple email accounts to the phone. Everything is instant and replying to SMS or emails are a breeze. The phone takes a little getting used to if it's your first time using a Blackiberry. The SMS function works like a chat which was not available on the Curve 8900. The phone's back cover has a leather feel which is nice and the silver edges make it look elegant. The track pad is great because it doesn't get stuck like the track ball does. All the great functions that comes with Blackberries are all here and are all improved. The camera function is a little slow and the megapixel could be higher, but it's not too bad considering it's not a camera phone. If you were a Blackberry user before, you will like the Bold 9700. Although at times, the phone gets a little confusing especially digging deep into the settings, but it's still manageable. The password function for those of you that are paranoid is great, but all the data will get deleted (scrubbed) if the wrong password is inputed too many times. I definitely recommend this phone to anyone on the market looking for a smart phone.Read full review
I can't give this device 5 starts, and it's my first time to have BB, I have seen many, but, this rocks, smaller and elegant, I found some hard times dealing with it, and if you are a extensive user it's basic features may not fill of your requests, I brought some software, and it makes BB really different, but, when I come to compare the Software price with IPhone or Android software, it's very expensive or you will have to wait for some promotions if you want to get it cheaper. other than that, the Phone is cool, has many features that I liked such as searching contacts and the integration with email and sms, plus, when you put the phone into it's hostler it locks and when you take it off, it unlocks automatically, so, no need to push the power button to unlock it. but, when you come to internet browsing, it's very very basic browser, as if it comes from 5 years ago when I first seen internet browsing on a mobile (my personal experience, but, I know it was there even before). Desktop Manager is the software you have to install on your PC in order to sync with your BB, it's a Java based, which is some how slower than other softwares such Nokia, Samsung, Microsoft and others. Writing on the BB bold 9700, isn't an easy task, because, it has smaller keys, and it may take a while in order to get used to it, but, still I love the keys shapes which make it easier to write because, you will feel each key with different curve and make it easier for you to write, but, a little piece of advice, if you have FAT fingers, you will find it harder than me :D. but, again, it's a very nice and portable device. hope I had gave informative impression about it. All the best,Read full review
I bought this product because I needed another phone. The one I had(original mytouch 3G)was malfunctioning way too often to even use as a phone. I researched & saw a great deal on this BlackBerry Bold 9700. I wanted to try out RIM's products and I figured this would be a good way to take a break from Android for awhile(I've been w/ them since the beginning). Once I received the phone, I was very pleased w/ it. It only took me couple days to get used to the keyboard & all the shortcuts, but after I got used to it using the phone was a breeze. The battery life is pretty good compared to any other smart phones out there; lasts me a couple days w/ out charging it when not really using all the features on it. It has the latest OS 5 on it & even though it isn't as customizable as Android's OS, it's good enough for me at the time being. The only problem that I have w/ it is the camera doesn't seem to work all of a sudden. I'm currently trying to work out this problem w/ BlackBerry Help, but other than that, this is a pretty good phone as my first BlackBerry. Thanks again.Read full review
For someone who has previously owned an iPhone 3GS, Nexus One, and a G1 I find this phone to be quite basic and maybe even a bit lacking at times. To be truly honest the only reason this phone has come into my possession is because of its UMA service from T-mobile. The UMA-feature alone is worth 200 on top of any phone. For those who do not know what UMA is, It is a service that uses your wireless internet as a cell phone tower. This means that if T-mobile gets extremely poor reception in your house (like me), you can connect your phone to wi-fi and it will be as if you have full bars in your house. A truly fantastic feature that T-mobile refuses to place on the many Android phones that it sells. Other than UMA, the trackpad is a great replacement for the old trackball and the keyboard is still probably the best physical keyboard on any phone. One of the greatest features of the blackberry is how great the actual "phone" aspects are integrated into the handset. The engineers of the phone made sure that this device acts like a phone first, then as a multimedia device. This cannot be said for others like the iPhone or Android phones. Overall the Blackberry is a very slick handset with extremely long battery life and a very well designed Operating system that has lasted for a very long. As a phone and an email/text messaging device it is probably the best. But for other uses including music, movies, games, and apps is where the device really falls short.Read full review
I bought this phone because I use my personal cell for my job and I needed a smartphone to keep up with the volume of emails I receive daily. This phone has been fantastic as far as syncing with my emails. I like the infrared track pad...it is very functional. As far as the things I dislike, the phone may have the capacity to do so, but I may not know how...I dislike that I can not view the call logs/history and delete everything in one swoop (all missed calls or all incoming/outgoing calls). It seems like I have to delete calls one at a time. I dislike that I can't set more than one daily alarm through the clock...I can set alarms through the calendar, but only one daily alarm through the clock...very strange. I don't like that it only takes a little tap to turn the phone from POWERED OFF to powered back on...there is literally no effort required...no holding down the button or anything. I could go on and on about little things that bother me, but in general, I have loved having this phone. I love the keypad, which is why I chose a blackberry over an iphone, the speakerphone is great (volume and clarity), good battery life. I find this phone to be very functional for the a person who does a lot of work via phone and email.Read full review
