I bought this lens for event and portrait photography. For portraits, this is a very nice lens for use outdoors, stopped to f8 or lower. At events, especially indoors, you would probably want to have a lens that employs better optics, and possibly IS/VC technology added. With the variable aperture max being 5.6 at the long end, unless your camera has good lowlight performance (i.e. 7D, etc.), you will have a hard time getting the camera to focus. The AF hunts quite a bit when the light levels drop, and you will miss shots trying to make adjustments. It adds a popular focal range to your arsenal at a decent price. It's clarity is very good once at lower apertures, and outdoors, it performs as good as other telephotos with similar features and prices. If you want to have the ability to zoom in on action, and it's a sunny day, then this is a great lens for the hobbyist or parent that just wants some nice shots. If you're shooting NCAA football games, weddings, or anything where the shots aren't just memories, then look at one of the feature-packed 70-300 IS/VC versions, namely the Canon 70-300 IS USM II or the Tamron 70-300 VC Di USD SP.Read full review
Good for wildlife photography though you may not always get professional results - especially in dim light. But some closeup shots of wildlife that I did get were simply awesome. Maybe the user. The one beef I have is that the AF function suddenly stopped working. You can hear the motor trying but it doesn't budge the focus. My camera bag gets banged around quite a bit on the ATV so I'm not sure if it's rough handling or not. Anyway, I was happy enough with this economy zoom to get the same one again on eBay.
Worked with my camera (Canon Rebel xTi) for about 5 minutes, then the error code came up. The couple pictures I managed to snap turned out great, and the lens is easy to maneuver. I think it would be great if it's compatible with your camera!
The lens is as told it was......... images are very sharp......... great pictures.... for the value I wouldn't change it at all. I was a gift to my nephew who is a photographer........ he has taken beautiful pictures with it , best I've seen. I would buy this product again if I had too.

This is a great lens, if it worked porperly, but it didn't. Everytime I zoomed it to its full 300 mm resolution, an error warning pops up, the shutter freezes, and I have no choice but to reset camera. However, I seemed to have no problem when zooming at 200 below. But what's the use of a zoom lens if you can't zoom all the way without it freezing up? I'm using it with a Canon Rebl XS. I heard there is a compatibility issue with Canon cameras. You'd be better off buying a Canon lens.
