I bought this movie as a present to my fiance and he loved it. Plot: Controversial animator Ralph Bakshi's literal adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic fantasy trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, is brought to the screen in a reverent, stilted way, with Bakshi forsaking his sharp-edged animated looniness for a rotoscoped dullness. Although the film's title encompasses the entire Tolkien trilogy, this longish Bakshi feature, in fact, covers only the first book, The Fellowship of the Ring, and the first half of the second, The Two Towers. Given the complexity of the original story line, this unfortunately means that only those intimately familiar with the books will be able to understand what is happening in the movie. In brief, however, an evil sorcerer from a previous era created a magical ring which enables its users to call upon its tremendous powers to rule the world, but it inevitably warps them to evil. It was believed lost, but during a resurgence of magical evil in the world, Bilbo, a simple, plain-spoken hobbit, recovers it from its hiding place. The forces of good give his nephew Frodo the choice to bear the awful burden of the ring to a place where it may be destroyed. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide Found the plot here:http://findnsave.sacbee.com/Product/636823#ixzz1C5rc6R5E Since ebyay requires 100 characters and I can't exactly review the movie myself.Read full review
Phenomenal movie, I just wish they would re release it and clean it up. The price is reasonable for an out of print movie but has become too much of an industry standard to remove a movie only to re release later .

If you enjoyed the original film you will be thrilled with it on Blu-ray. It looks better than in the theater. Brought back lots of childhood memories. The audio separation is impressive for such an old film and adds to the experience. If you are faithful fan of LOTR, the film just as the Peter Jackson modern films will be frustrating. It isn't accurate to the story but both attempts add images to the great story and for that they can be appreciated.
This is great little film for the time it came out. Its full of action and some really good animation for the time. It puts all the major three films in to one fil still has the same action and bad guys. And on BLU RAY it is even better, even the biggest piece of crap is good on BLU RAY, that tect is wonderful.
Even more entertaining than the original. Bluray make it better.

We recently bought a LCD/HD television and a blu-ray player, which makes all our DVDs look better. My boyfriend, however, needed to see how much better blu-ray would make LOTR look. It looks amazing........
I love that it sticks very closely to the books, and now that it is on Blu-Ray the color and sound it much richer and more enjoyable to watch. A must for Lord of the Rings dans
