Amazing Entertainment Value
Amazing sound, great looking two channel receiver. Will be using in hobby room for FM and playing vinyl. Bought as replacement for vintage pioneer unit which died and main consideration was the phono inputs. Very impressed. More than expected for the money.

Yamaha RX 397 lives up to its reputation
I bought this receiver to replace a very old NAD 3020 amplifier. I bought it because of the Yamaha name. It was a discontinued model (about 2 years ago) but with nearly identical specs to its replacement in the product line. It was 1/3 the cost of a brand new receiver. The pictures did not lie. It is in "like new" condition. It also has a phono input, important to me. It powers two KLH 5 speakers with no problem. I replaced my old speaker wire with 12 gauge wire because of the long runs from the amp. This contributes to the better sound from the speakers. The controls feel well made and it is not as large as some amps I looked at (Harmon Kardon, for example) that were huge and would not fit my space. I listen to a lot of classical music and also have it hooked up to an XMSirius ... I bought this receiver to replace a very old NAD 3020 amplifier. I bought it because of the Yamaha name.
