I bought this DVD because I had read the book Beatle! The Pete Best Story by Pete Best & Patrick Doncaster, as well as buying his latest CD Haymans Green. This DVD picks up where the Anthology series part 1 leaves off. The DVD covers the formation of the Beatles and the major part Pete and his mother Mona played in bringing this about. It starts with Mona winning a horse race, which led to the Casbah Club in the cellar of the house (Haymans Green) she bought with the winnings and how The Beatles made this their first home before honing their sound both in Hamburg and at the Cavern. There are lots of interviews with the people who were there and who had a great influence on the band during this period. The truth behind Pete's sacking is the dirty little secret Apple and the surviving Beatles would rather you not know about but is revealed here in its entirety. A lot of misinformation and false myths are dispelled in the process. The only criticism I have is that the production quality is not A+ but considering it was not made by the BBC (or equivalent), it's a minor criticism. The content more than makes up for any flaws in the production quality, which are not major. If you want something more than the official whitewashed early Beatle history, then this DVD is for you!Read full review
OK. I am biased as I got to meet the man and his brother after a gig and spent some hours getting to know him. Talk about a sweet, modest, likable guy! And yes he can play the drums! Production value on the DVD is tops. Only thing missing is actual Beatles music so be warned. There is some remarkable footage that will fill in some blanks from the Anthology series. I was always interested in the Hamburg era of the beatles and so far this is the best documentary I've see on it. Sure it centers around Pete...but it's his story. This will be more of a pleasure for fans who are well educated in the Beatles already or someone who would likes documentaries in general. An amazing story of "Almost".."What if". He was the most handsome one at the time and had the biggest fan base in Liverpool. Hmmm.Read full review
If you are a collector of Beatles memorabilia or just want to have some form of media to remember this wonderful group, you must view and own this DVD! I purchased this and have had the most wonderful time enjoying this, and really had no notion that this was going to be so well produced! You will be amazed at seeing all of the musicians, artists, friends, and others who were associated with the Beatles when they first started as a group of teenagers in the coffee bar that the Mother of Peter Best opened for them! It is fasinating, compelling, exciting, informative, and a joy to hear about the friend ships that were formed, the ideas that flowed, and the love that was shown by Monna Best for her son and his other band mates! In addition to this, you will enjoy seeing how wonderful it is to view the English area where this was all happening and to have an idea of how beautiful the homes were! It is just magical and captivating to see this! Oh, and let me also add that there is also a lot of samples of many of the Beatles early music productions as well as lots of interviews by the other muscians that were on some of their first commerical endeavors such as Tony Sheridan! There also some wonderful segments with Brian Epstein being interviewed and he gives a very compelling explaination of why he was so impressed with this group of young rock and rollers! Do buy this production for I know that you will enjoy watching every minute of this and will want to view this many times! If I continue to tell you more about this, I think that this will spoil the joy and surprises that you will have when you intially see this! Julie MatthewsRead full review
I found it very interesting to see in the documentary the personal narrative of characters like Astrid Kirchherr, Andy White and John Lennon's sister.

This is a MUST for any Beatles fan! It accurately tells the story about the early days in the Casbah club (before the Cavern) and of the Hamburg days. Pete is a wonderful person who was dealt a "bad hand" but overcame it as the DVD depicts. Pete is truly the "BEST" of the Beatles!!!
Great interviews with many of the people who were close to and worked with the Beatles in there early days. In depth view Pete Best's role and association with the Beatles during their start to fame. I highly recommend this DVD to any Beatles fan or collector.
great backstage story of the beatles before they became famous. how the band screwed pete best out of fame & glory by replaceing him with ringo. this is a great bio of him.
whats not to like? its early beatles!!!! and just 1 cent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
