Amazing device just don't ask Sony for help
It is currently 2019 and this guy is still a beast. Now a lot of streaming apps are no longer supported but if you are buying this device you should already know it is limited in online functions. That being said let me do a quick rundown. Google chrome and play store work perfectly, the most recent firmware update enabled 3D blu ray playback , the device can side load apps , and Android OS functions are all great. I bought this device for helping me with my upstart eBay business , I needed something that could use the web on the TV , test blu ray and DVDs for functionality , and be able to take advantage of everything android does with the added media formats supported DO NOT TRY TO ASK SONY FOR ANY HELP. I am sharing this because I dont want anyone else to go throug this debacle ... It is currently 2019 and this guy is still a beast. I purchased mine with out the official remote based off of the Sony manual and support pages indicating most mini keyboards work to control the device. My unit got locked up durning setup and I could not complete setup until I paired the official remote to it. Sony claimed , ( I posted screen caps ) that this is the ONLY blu ray / DVD player in the HISTORY OF SONY that requires the original official remote to complete startup and without that remote , (this is Sony's words) completely useless and will never be able to complete setup. They also said that this information was never disclaimed to the public and is not found in either the manual or the Sony support site. Sony even told me to return it because it will NEVER function without this one specific remote. Well that's all false information and I found a way to complete setup by enabling my Insignia HDMI-CEC feature and it instantly completed setup. Sony refused to tell me any information to trouble shoot this problem , their first and only answer was like I said above. With that being said this device works perfectly with complete functionality ( aside from streaming apps and a few other unsupported apps ) using a Rii I8+ mini keyboard. Sony also told me this keyboard would not control the device. Now this guy works and it is hands down the best piece of equipment that fit my needs. If you love Android OS, need a blu ray / DVD player that can browse the web , connect to a home media network (offline) , play any format of file you throw at it , and works flawlessly this is for you. Last thing I have to say is this device is now the sole piece of equipment I use for running my eBay business , it is perfect and a extremely usefull tool

Great product, but outdated now.
The product itself is outdated, and many of the features can't be used anymore. The remote control and the design and color of the product was the selling point for me. I got a Sony Blu-ray player with a sleek design and an awesome remote. If you have a smart TV, you won't miss out on any of the features not supported anymore, as you'll have them available on your smart TV.

Best media streamer out there. Great for DLNA and Plex
This is not a bad device. The problem is that what it was supposed to be was a failure. It could have been incredible, but the greed on the part of the content providers killed that potential. I understand their position. I would not want to have Google getting in between my content and my customers either. But that's how it worked out and the early adopters got hosed. No doubt. That said, since its disastrous release, the Sony's Google TV is now a GREAT media streamer from your PC or your Mac. You can do Blu-Ray, you can do 3D Blu-Ray (yep!), you can use it as a DLNA client, you can use it as a Plex client. It handles the obligatory NetFlix as well as Amazon Prime Instant Video (though it's a PITA using the browser for that feature, it needs an App). You can throw whatever audio ... This is not a bad device. The problem is that what it was supposed to be was a failure. It could have been incredible, but the greed on the part of the content providers killed that potential. If you're looking to be a cord cutter....this is a good device to be looking at. You won't get VuDu (which is disappointing) and it's only fair to admit that this is a dead-end device. Sony has been VERY good at updating it, but there won't be any more Intel Atom-based Google TVs after this one and the Logitech Revue, so don't expect development to go much further. But again, look at it for what it is now. Not what you wish it would be and not what it was originally supposed to be. You'll find that it's a pretty nice device for the price.

Despite the bad, I'll be happy once updated; however, needs remote upgrade.
Currently this is what I expected. It has potential but waiting on the anticipated updates. Good: Very good guided setup if connecting ETHERNET prior to power-up. All my connections were good and unit found updates which was more than I expected. I like the IR blasters, mouse and scroll functions. It's very much like navigating a PC with a large LCD HDTV. Bad: No custom/manual settings for wired ETHERNET that I could find. It seems to default to DHCP and connect and not allow manual setup. Reason I find this inconvenient is that I prefer to use different DNS servers. I'm thinking the only way to setup a true static IP with custom DNS is to have it try to connect and fail with no connection and enter the settings manually prior to connecting ETHERNET. Maybe this will also be addressed in ... Currently this is what I expected. It has potential but waiting on the anticipated updates. As far as the Guide, I think I prefer Directv's HD-DVR guide. But this may work well with a HD receiver for recording content that it couldn't do alone. I finally figured out that I need to press the Menu button then mouse over to the X, @ exit to exit Netflix. A common EXIT would be nice; seems the ESC button could be utilized for that too? QWERTY keyboard does not compare to the slideout QWERTY on my Samsung Epic 4G and no backlighting. I'm also confused by the order of the multi-colored function keys being out the accustomed order.

Good Throwback Product
Works as an alternative to PS3 for blu-ray. It’s older technology but decent. I wish it was still supported by Google and was capable of hooking up to Direct TV for some of the built in functions.
