This game made me think there was a Goonies sequel. This is a pretty good 8bit equivalent!
Good: It's a definite surprise if you question if it's really anything like the movie. A lot more in-depth than an cheap arcade game, with a lot of exploration, items, good controls, and without being typical-NES hard. Bad: I'm a little lost in it. But it's forgiving enough and interesting enough for me to want to figure it out on my own.

Starting on a mission to save a captured mermaid you have to brave traps, puzzles and monsters that are in your way. The game is very challenging. It looks like your classic sidescrolling game at first, but once you advance a little further and start noticing there are places you can't get to yet things start to look futile. For some reason, it takes a while to fully understand this game. First you have your sidescroller part where you have to advance - get items to help you advance - take side paths and so forth. Each area has it's own unique theme, ... You can get a hammer that you can use to sometimes put holes in the walls and floor. Other times you can create holes but need to use a hammer to climb through or a rope to climb down. Often times these areas lead to new side scrolling areas and there is a lot of backtracking and experiimentation This game has sections with really atmospheric music that really takes people back down memory lane...and as for controls.....Super simplicity....IS HOW IT SHOULD BE...and super responsive

The Official Nintendo Player's Guide features this game and I had to have it, as a kid I always wanted every game in this guide now I'm getting there. Thank you jjgames for this awesome copy of the game, it's vintage well taken care of and plays wonderfully.

One of the best hidden NES gems from the late 80's, Goonies 2 is just as much fun to play now as it was back in the day, maybe moreso as this run and re-run Metroidvania classic has just gotten better with age. Play as Mikey, under pressure to save his friends from the Fratelli family that wants revenge for being locked up the first time. Find tools, unlock areas and jam to a rad soundtrack, all while taking out challenging enemies. Be sure to have your notebook or cell phone ready to capture on-screen passwords as this old school retro experience doesn't have battery backed up saves.
