  • Excellent reference, especially for the Latin literate

I've recently returned to fishkeeping after four or five years away. I remembered a lot about its intricacies, but realized pretty quickly that I needed to replace all the reference books I'd so cavalierly sold at a garage sale. I bought this book after taking it out of the library. I found it to be very accessible with more than a 1,000 pages and nearly as many pictures. Dr. Herbert Axelrod is the name in this kind of writing and with four co-writers, he describes each fish with all the vitals, including temperament, food and water needs, temprature requirements and more. • Informative writing for fish keepers with more than 30 years or less of fish keeping experience.

An immense assortment of tropical & tropical lite fish with some temperate water species reviewed in the book with plants that are helpful in aquaria also.
