"Lightweight with great acting on a subject that will capture your interest"

First saw it on TV and had to have a DVD copy. Play it often as it is well done as a story with excellent acting. Another Steven Spielberg, Oprah and Juliet Blake production. A true to life story that even older children can enjoy because they would understand the story. It's really a family friendly film.

  • Delightful, Heartwarming, CLEAN Movie

Although it is a bit long (just over 2 hours), it is well worth the watch. Manish Dayal is nice to look at and is very believable as an actor, but in my estimation his screen father, Om Puri, steals the show! I loved his dry humor, in particular (e.g., after losing the brakes on the family vehicle and nearly killing them all, he states flatly, "I'm no mechanic, but I think it's a matter of the brakes."). And the interactions between him and Helen Mirren (the owner of the posh French restaurant across the street) are priceless--two stubborn characters that met their match in the other! If you have had any interaction with opinionated and stubborn people, I'm sure you'll relate to this dynamic of the movie. To sum it up, you need to watch this. It is FUN and sweet and tender and ...

  • Must see

I saw this movie first about 5 months ago on loan from a friend and loved it. It's funny and very engaging, not at all what I expected. Based on the title, I probably would have never even looked at it. Since I purchased it, we have watch it again a couple of times and lend it to other family members and friends. They all seem to enjoy it, just as much as we do. It's become one of my favourite movies.

  • Hassan is in love...with food!

Hassan, an aspiring chef, moves from India to France with his father and siblings. They open an Indian restaurant directly across the street from an established, traditional French restaurant. At first, it's all-out war between Hassan's Papa and Madame Mallorie, a widow who owns the French restaurant. Hassan is romantically interested in a sous chef, Marguerite, but she sees him as competition for a coveted job. Hassan yearns to blend French cooking with Indian spices, which initially upsets both Madame and Papa. Anyone who's ever seen a movie can predict how these subplots will turn out...but what an enjoyable journey! The photography is beautiful, the acting is excellent, the characters are likable, and the happy ending is satisfying. The real story is not Hassan's romance with ...

  • Crossing Cultural barriers in a Wonderful, heartfelt Story!

Wonderful, inspirational story! A great example of do not judge others until you have walked in their shoes and gotten to know them well. Helen Mirren is delightful as always!
