About this product

Product Information

It started innocuously enough. The people of Earth intercepted a signal from space, a cryptic message that once deciphered held an enigmatic message: "Danger: Ozgar has been defeated but not destroyed. Suralon is sinking. Return to Arkonia. Abandon all colonies at once." Passing the incident off as a mystery never to be solved, the people of Earth treated the warning as non-threatening. They were wrong.

Within days, an enormous alien ship appeared in space above Earth and deployed numerous satellites around the equator. Soon after, tides and weather exhibited erratic and devastating behavior, tectonic plates shifted causing disastrous upheavals as gravitational forces began to wreak havoc and tear the Earth apart. Panic ensued.

Fortunately, in the polar region, mankind's first hyper ship has neared completion. Relatively unscathed by the equatorial bombardment of lethal forces, the facility has also tracked the origin of the enigmatic message, ostensibly sent by the Arkonians. Now you, as the world's last best hope, must test pilot the craft into the unknown and journey to the source of the message. Perhaps, since the Arkonians apparently defeated the mysterious and deadly Ozgar, therein lies the only hope for humanity.

Using Apple's Quick Time VR, The Crystal Key immerses you in a full 360º panoramic first-person viewpoint as you adventure into the unknown. The interface is simple point-and-click and utilizes a "smart" cursor that changes to accommodate specific actions onscreen. As you progress, various items will be discovered and relegated to a backpack inventory, to be used as needed during the adventure.

Five years in the making according to the developers, The Crystal Key will allow you to unlock the secrets of alien landscapes and environments such as jungles, water worlds and deserts. Puzzles and enigmas challenge your problem-solving instincts, wits and reasoning. Feel up to the challenge of saving humanity? Then find The Crystal Key and open the path to human salvation.

  • Good game for people who like to solve problems and uncover clues

It requires a lot of attention to details to advance and therefore it is a slow paced game. It reminded me of the game "Myst". It is over my head, I am not a sleuth.

  • decent adventure game

The game itself - it's very well designed. You get the hang of the interface fairly quickly. For the most part, the puzzles are both creative and reasonable. Some, however, are very unintuitive and require finding very obscure, hidden objects, or using an object in a manner you'd never think of. Some puzzles require you to have visited an area that you might not even have known about. Don't be afraid to take a peek at uhs-hints.com if despite your most diligent reasoning you cannot come up with a solution. The environments are on the whole quite pleasant, with the exception of one - the jungle. Every node you can walk to looks just like every other one and you must therefore navigate by trial and error. A minus of this game is that there is no character interaction at all - in fact, there ...

  • Not very good

Sorry, I didn't like this game. I got about a quarter of the way through and found I had to go through a port hole only the key had not reappared in my tool ket the last time I used it, therefore I was unable to go any farther in the game. I know this because I looked up the walkthrough (I use www.GameBoomers.com) and found out I needed the key. The graphis were good only it was so dark somtimes you couldn't see a thing. The music is enough to drive you up a tree. The story plot was the same old thing, bad guy wants to distroy the would, why I'll never know. Don't wast your money unless you can get it very cheap.

  • Not too bad

Only reason I bought it was to finish it. Had it several years before but lost the blasted thing. Not nearly as vague as the MYST series but could have used a little more challenging puzzles to it. Old but fairly decent.

  • Good game play for its age

Even though it is a 95 the game has the game play and visual eyecandy to rival some of the more modern CG games. It is definately comparable to the Myst games and you don't need to have a huge video card either. Love it.
