I got this because it is smaller than and can be a slave to my SB800. Works great, and isn’t overloaded with features I won’t use like there are on my SB800. Super powerful, and simple to use. Very user friendly, and I probably would have preferred to learn on this flash as it has a much lower learning curve. on camera it does fine but for off camera use it too slow to respond, you will get less than acceptable results at times due to its nature to go into sleep mode quickly and then lag in waking and shooting rate.

Just what I wanted
I use this when taking pictures of birds and other wildlife in daylight where there may be backlighting from the sun or shadows that need to be filled in. I added a Better Beamer fresnel lens extender and am very pleased with the range and flexibility that allows me to take pictures at even the fastest shutter speeds. It never seems to slow me down and often brings out additional detail and colors. The build quality and performance are great. I am using Nimh batteries and am happy with the number of shots and days before requiring recharge. The SB-600 is compact, powerful and great for High Speed Sync (FP) on the Nikon F6.
The Nikon SB-600 is the flash you want if you have a Nikon F6 since it will allow high speed sync (FP) on that particular camera. It's also slightly more compact and has a really clear and easy to read scree, more so than the SB-700. If you use CLS, it only works as a "slave" flash and can't control other Nikon flashes.

This speedlight is what I was looking for to increase the quality and use of my Nikon DSLR D5000. It does add weight to the camera but the benefits, properly lighted subjects, greatly out weigh that issue. I appreciate that the item was as described and came with some accessories, which I haven't used professionally yet. I look forward to all the great photos I will take with this speedlight.
