    Before there was Independence Day, there was "War of the Worlds"!

    There was a director named George Pal who filmed this classic film - - - but he did so much more. Pal was cutting edge for his time, filming other such classics as "When Worlds Collide" and "Atlantis, the Lost Continent". Years ahead of his time, of all his films, this was the best. The original radio broadcast by Orson Wells (later an acclaimed director in his own right) made national panic and made headlines............so that makes this movie all that much more famous. First all all, this is in color - - - another George Pal concept that keeps his films fresher than others of the day. This is a "it makes sense" science fiction film, rare for it's day that would later breed one's like Star Trek for it's scientific basis the film is centered on. There is a love story as well, desperation, ...

    War of the Worlds (1953)

    In this movie England is not the only one to get invaded. It shows the entire world under attack. The alien attack vehicles are great. When I was a boy, the movie was on TV but I was sent to bed. I remember laying in bead listening to the blaster fire and finally could not resist. I crept out of bed, crawled down the hall and was peaking around the corner watching the TV show when my dad spotted me. Back in bed I continued to listen to the show until I fell asleep. With that story in mind I loved the show even though the wires could be seen holding up the aliens,.

    Love my Alien invasion stories!! Love the 1995 War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise also. Check out Signs with Mel Gibson... and check out Invasion of the Saucermen - it will have you laughing but terrified of the crawling hand!!

    Scary classic sci-fi.

    I LOVE this movie! The scenery is excellent, the acting is engaging, and the aliens are terrifying way before you even get your first glimpse of them. Every time I see them sail by the screen, I nearly jump out of my skin! This film is a prime example of classic sci-fi, and I totally recommend it.

    Classic Sci-Fi at its best!

    Classic Sci-Fi film that, for its time, had amazing effects. This is the sci-fi film I remembered watching as a kid and I loved sharing it with my kids. They enjoyed it and didn't comment at all that is was OLD. They thought they would hate it at first, but enjoyed it. At a run time under 90 minutes, it made for a great family film enjoyed by all!
