I have an unusual problem resolved with a replacement alternator. I figured it out I received the relay quickly and it is exactly what it is advertised to be. Thank you. Yes, the alternator does supply ac to this relay coil, and the coil must handle ac and dc, thus the high cost. The relay is energized by the alternator so the relay is only on when the engine is running. If this relay fails you need a replacement alternator.
