Reviews
"Sophisticated readers...will come away with images and characters who are impossible to forget." - School Library Journal "In Castaways of the Flying Dutchman, Brian Jacques takes a bold and brilliant creative step. Using the legend of a never-ending voyage, he enriches, deepens, and gives new meaning to it. He combines ample measures of suspense, fantasy, and mystery, of poetry and great poignancy, and the emotional impact is powerful and unforgettable. It's exciting to see a front-rank author rise to a new challenge-and his readers are the fortunate beneficiaries." - Lloyd Alexander, "Sophisticated readers...will come away with images and characters who are impossible to forget." - School Library Journal "In Castaways of the Flying Dutchman, Brian Jacques takes a bold and brilliant creative step.  Using the legend of a never-ending voyage, he enriches, deepens, and gives new meaning to it.  He combines ample measures of suspense, fantasy, and mystery, of poetry and great poignancy, and the emotional impact is powerful and unforgettable.  It''s exciting to see a front-rank author rise to a new challenge-and his readers are the fortunate beneficiaries." - Lloyd Alexander, Sophisticated readers...will come away with images and characters who are impossible to forget. • Castaways of the Flying Dutchman by Brian Jacques

This is one of my daughter's (12 yrs old) favorite books. Even though she'd already read it from the school library, she wanted to have her own copy so she could read it again. The paperback cover says its "Vivid...Haunting....a boy and his dog on an eternal journey as castaways from the legendary ghost ship the FLYING DUTCHMAN,sent by an avenging angel to forever roam the earth in search of those in need...Only by discovering the buried secrets and solving the ancient riddles can Chapelvale, a 19th Century village, be saved."

  • Excellent read for any age!

The story is captivating and invites you to feel as though you are tagging along throuhgout the story. the heroes are unmistakably good, and it is easy to see the villains for what and who they are, and the story surrounding their deeds makes it impossible to put this book down.
