About this product
Product Information
This film is just as much a tribute to New York's Lower East Side in the 1980s--a grimy, crazy, bohemian "paradise" where drug-peddling street junkies, super models, post-punk rockers, and hustlers in stretch limousines all stand on equal ground--as it is about the artist Jean Michel Basquiat. The film follows 19-year-old Basquiat during a 24-hour period as he wanders the streets aimlessly. Reciting poetry in voice over, Basquait sprays graffiti art on alleyway walls, flirts with beautiful women he sees on the street, charms a rich collector into buying one of his paintings for $500, smokes joints, and drifts from club to club all night long. In fact, the second half of the film takes place almost entirely in smokey clubs, and unrolls like a rock video capturing some excellent, unmistakably '80s, rock performances. Debbie Harry of Blondie, and bands DNA, Tuxedo Moon, and the Plastics all make appearances. Basquiat died in 1991 at age 29. The film was shot 10 years prior, in 1981, under the title "New York Beat," but the production was left unfinished until 2000, when its title was changed to DOWNTOWN 81. In 2001, it received a theatrical release in New York City.

Item description from the seller
Seller feedback (4,978)
- o***2 (1018)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchase11/10 just for being the only seller out of several in the last month for keeping on top of inventory and actually fulfilling an order instead of quietly canceling once the platform's S/H deadline passes with no other communication. Item was well packed and as photographed + described. Order was shipped basically same day and arrived very quickly. Thank you!!
- 4***e (1)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseThe seller was incredibly sweet and understanding! The item arrived in good condition and matched the description in both quality and appearance. When I reached out with concerns, they responded with such grace and generosity — truly going above and beyond. I'm so grateful for the kindness and value they offered. I would absolutely buy from this seller again. Highly recommend!
- e***1 (156)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseI received the items pictured. Items were packed in an appropriate sized box. I had a total of 5 items and only a couple were wrapped to protect them from further damage during shipment. Thankfully there was no damage from the individual items rubbing together. Overall I had a positive experience and would recommend, so thank you!
