About this product

Product Information

A strong, athletic physique, highlighted by a flat midsection with well-defined abdominal muscles, is the goal of everyone who works out, from lifelong gym rats to the New Year's resolution crowd. But most people who seek these goals undermine their efforts. In The New Rules of Lifting for Abs, Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove offer unique programs based on the latest breakthroughs in exercise science. And, as they did in their previous books, The New Rules of Lifting and The New Rules of Lifting for Women, the authors debunk ab-training myths while showing readers how to strip off even the most stubborn flab. Surprising revelations include: Washboard abs do not always equal a healthy, pain-free back The crunch is actually a poor choice for most people Extending the core can be much more effective than flexing ab muscles It's impossible to isolate the core muscles And much, much more Readers get three months of intense workouts, combining fat-busting conditioning work with intense strength training, which they can easily expand into a yearlong program. Schuler and Cosgrove also include a nutrition component detailing how to eat for fat loss, muscle gain, and improved health. Home-gym friendly, and illustrated with more than 150 black-and-white photographs, The New Rules of Lifting for Abs delivers the goods.

  • Some very thought provoking facts and exercises

After years of getting quite fit and strong with the wrong breathing and other techniques this book provides a wealth of well informed, researched and tested information. In addition some great core exercises that when seen you will think why didn't I think of doing that. You probably did but as the author points out these are a lot harder than your standard plank and the like. If you are serious about upping your game when it comes to strength and conditioning then this book is worth its weight in gold. After wasting so much money on training books over the years, I wish this book had been available 20 years ago. I could have bought a complete new gym with what I have wasted on books that don't live up to their expectations to date. If you only buy this book, then in my opinion you ...

  • ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! Just what I needed since my back pain is so limiting!

I absolutely LOVE this book! I had been an avid weight lifter since before it was popular for women to be involved in weight training! (1980's)Rachel McLish was and still is my HERO!!!! As I have aged (I'm 45 now) I've done a few things that consequently compromised the strength of my back/core. One of them being a car wreck. Since the accident I have had serious problems with my back, neck and shoulders; making weight lifting extremely painful or impossible. I had just about given up on weight training until I saw this book!I actually saw it at the library, so I checked it out,...thinking it wouldn't have anything new or different...boy was I WRONG!!! The whole premise of the book is different from any other...I immediately looked it up on the internet, made my purchase & had my own ...

  • Its ok the book for fitness but there is more to learn.

I really enjoyed the book although there are so many issues in fitness these days with the fact the this area is still new for everybody, and scientist are still working on getting better results in finding better ways to do the right exercises in human body. It is not easy to find or to learn exercise for everybody. We are different in our body composition, and some exercises on the book can be bad for some. But anyway, I hope that by sharing this with my friends they will like it too when they apply the work in the Gym or at home. Have a good day.

  • Great read!

I bought this product because I like Alwyn's previous work and listening to him in person. This was an awesome read and gave me a few new ideas!
