Think I have been welding for about 45 years. Did not think this would weld on 110 but it handles at 3/32 pretty good. Made a beautiful weld on 220 with the jet rod 1/8. It is not designed for production welding. I believe after 10 or 15 minutes it will trip out for about 20 to cool off.

An Amazing Welding Bargain
To start with I have over 30 years experience as a Weldor, and I've used all sorts of welding machines from simple buzz boxes and portable generator welders, to large industrial grade machines. I've done gas, stick, mig and tig. Not bragging, just saying I've had practical experience with a wide variety of welding equipment. A few months ago, on a lark I decided to buy an Amico 160 amp ard welder. Honestly I didn't expect much, but I was curious about these inverter based machines, and was really intrigued by the claim of a 60% duty cycle. When it showed I was quite frankly amazed at how well it performed. Fast forward three months and I noticed that Amico had a 200 amp welder with tig capability built on the same platform as my 160. Once again I rolled the dice, and this time I'm not as ... A few months ago, on a lark I decided to buy an Amico 160 amp ard welder. Honestly I didn't expect much, but I was curious about these inverter based machines, and was really intrigued by the claim of a 60% duty cycle. When it showed I was quite frankly amazed at how well it performed. Fast forward three months and I noticed that Amico had a 200 amp welder with tig capability built on the same platform as my 160. Once again I rolled the dice, and this time I'm not as surprised, but only because I had higher expectations, and I was not let down. The welder itself is virtually identical except for the gas fittings for the tig process and an additional switch. The welding leads were identical as well as the 110 volt adapter. The tig torch appears to be a well made unit and has a protective, zippered soft case, and includes collets and nozzles as well as two tungsten electrodes. Also included were two 3/32", and two 1/8" welding rods that were not conventionally marked. When I tried the machine out they seemed to run very similar to 6013 or 7014 rod. The welding arc is extremely smooth and stable, as stable as some industrial grade machines that I've used. After burning up the sample pack, I broke out an old opened package of 3/32" 7018 welding rod. If you're not familiar with 7018, it is a "low hydrogen" rod which should be stored in an oven, if not in a sealed package. Despite this, there was no problem striking an arc and once again the arc was smooth and stable, performing far above and beyond it's price point. At this point I do not have an argon bottle, and it's been about 20 years since I tig welded, so I can't actually say how this machine performs as a tig welder. But, based on it's performance as an arc welder, I'm confident it would do an acceptable job. Given that it's priced at less than half the price of those well known blue and red entry level arc welders, this machine would still be a bargain even without tig welding capability. In short I would recommend this welder for home hobbyist work as well as light industrial or repair work, such as an automotive repair shop.
