Good lights, poor connectors
The pagodas are of very good quality being constructed of metal.
The one aspect that is not good enough pertains to the wire connectors.
Having seen reviews reporting that some of these were defective or failed right out of the box,
I was ready for this. The problem being that these old style connectors have prongs that are a
bit too short. That coupled with the squeeze points being too small result in poor penetration
of the connect points into the power wire.
With this, 2 of my 3 lamps did not turn on.
However, I had encountered this problem when helping a friend with their Malibu pathway lights.
The resolution was buying Hampton Bay connectors at Home Depot (2 for $5.25). These have
slightly longer metal points and user friendly pressure spots. I had 2 in my garage, cut off the
Malibu connectors and spliced on the Hampton Bay ones, and voila, all lights came on.
In summary, I like the Malibu pagodas, but not the connectors.
