SynopsisSally Mann remains among the most innovative, talked-about and daring artists working with a camera today. Deep South is a much-anticipated collection of her exquisite, ethereal landscape photography, taken in the years since she rose to international fame with her groundbreaking book Immediate Family. The photographs contained here, many produced with the 19th century collodion process and a variety of toning techniques, capture what Mann calls the radical light of the American Sout''. Incredible, ghostly and heartbreakingly beautiful.'
I couldn't wait to order Sally Mann's book after seeing her interview on the Charley Rose Show. What's more I
was very impressed with many of the photos that were in that exhibition. Upon paging through my new book I was
disappointed to see none of these pictures! All I saw was her experimentation with glass negatives - none of which
impressed me or enlightened me. Too bad - this volume was not inexpensive. I wasted a perfectly good gift card
based on her reputation. I won't make that mistake again. I thought her writing (if it really was hers) far exceeded
her photography!
