About this product

Product Information

In Amos Poe's 1976 underground film, Eric Mitchell stars as Rico, a young New Yorker whose love for French New Wave cinema spurs him to live his life like he is a denizen of 1960s Paris. A photographer who fancies himself a gangster who uses his camera as a gun, Rico's carefully constructed world of illusion is disrupted when he falls in love.

  • a bit of Blondie.

I purchased this because it features Debbie Harry the lead singer of Blondie. Yes she is in it. and yes she sings. However her time is about 5 minutes. The rest of the film is somewhat boring. I remember reading that she and Robert Fripp were involved in a re make of the 1960's French film Alphaville. It does not bare any similarity to Breathless either. Perhaps this film was culled from that, but it bares little resemblance. So this might be a scrap album of vignettes shot in the 1970s for that project.

  • To call this film a classic would make this classic fake.....

Like pretty much other no-wave films, this one challenges the viewer's assumption of what constitutes a hallucination. It articulates the scope and extent to which ordinary people live out the hallucinations they externalize -- effectual hallucinations, if you will. They are radically different from causal species of hallucinations, like organically cerebral ones that stem from schizophrenia or autism, or ones induced by illicit substances. If this assessment eludes you, dear reader, you will find Unmade Beds as abjectly boring as all other No Wave films that Amos Poe and others directed.
