LOADED was a fitting end for the mighty Velvet Underground. Reed's voice is noticeably ragged, and bassist Doug Yule ended up recording many of the vocals for the final mix. This was no longer the art rock Velvet Underground, but a far more accessible version, relying on Reed's songwriting over the band's overall musicality.

NotesDigitally remastered and expanded six disc (five CDs + DVD) 45th Anniversary ‘Re-Loaded’ edition includes the original album remastered in both stereo and mono, a generous selection of demos, early versions and alternate mixes from that era, a newly remastered/re-edited version of Live At Max’s Kansas City, two high resolution mixes, plus a surround sound mix in DTS and Dolby Digital and an unreleased May 1970 concert recorded in Philadelphia. The final disc is an audio only DVD that features three different mixes of Loaded: Surround Sound Remix in DTS and Dolby Digital, 96/24 High resolution Stereo Downmix and 96/24 High resolution Original Stereo Mix. For the Surround Sound and Stereo Downmix, the original track listing has been re-sequenced slightly to include the segue that was originally planned for ‘I Found A Reason’/’Head Held High’. Loaded is the fourth studio album by The Velvet Underground, released in November 1970 by Atlantic Records' subsidiary label Cotillion. It was the final album recorded featuring Lou Reed, who had left the band shortly before its release. The album featured original members Reed, Sterling Morrison and Maureen ‘Mo’ Tucker plus Doug Yule, who had joined the band in 1968 after the departure of John Cale. Loaded was a commercial effort aimed at radio play, another step away from the Warhol-influenced days. The album's title refers to Atlantic's request that the band produce an album "loaded with hits". Doug Yule said, "On Loaded there was a big push to produce a hit single, there was that mentality, which one of these is a single, how does it sound when we cut it down to 3.5 minutes, so that was a major topic for the group at that point."
