I'm giving this 5 stars, but if could have, I'd have given it 4 and 1/2 stars. All things considered, it really is a great value. Not that it would have stopped me from buying it, but I did overlook the fact that it doesn't contain Spoonful. In my opinion, there are a couple of other weaker tracks that they could have omitted in favor of Spoonful. Nevertheless, the remastering sounds great and all the other classics are here; Sunshine of Your Love, White Room, Strange Brew, Politician, Tales of Brave Ulysses, etc. Btw, it's 2-disc set as Disc 2 is live. It's getting more difficult to find this particular collection, so grab one while you can.

some recordings age less-than-well, some never do. my wife and i were pleasantly surprised that the Cream compilation is in the former column. one song really stood out in particular for me. i had forgotten, if i ever remembered, how explosive "Those were the days" is. A near-perfect gem of a song, about 3-4 minutes in length. a somewhat muddy-middle distance-innocuous-sounding intro, 2 short bars, then the explosive POP, as the mix seems to reverse itself, the 3 instruments are suddenly front-and-center, very crisp, instant excitement, and your brain thinks "now we're in for a great ride". The other familiar tunes sound dare-i-say-it better-than-ever. Overall, Cream has remained fresh and very listen-able 40 years on. I checked with allmusic before buying this collection, if you remember hearing Cream for the first time, or if you're new to it, buy this album. One small complaint: i recall a great tune, not on this CD, "Dance the Night Away". should've been included......otherwise do yourself a favor, buy this.Read full review

I bought this hoping to get the best of Cream and thats what I got. They started many movements, Metal, Prog-Rock, Blues-Rock. Would have been interesting to see if they didn't break up after a few years what they would have come up with.Although it did seem they were headed into a poppy direction. All the hits are on here and some other classics that would not be hits or reguarded until later.Sunshine of Your Love, White Room, Tales of Brave Ulysius, I Feel Free and many more. Live cuts are also here which really gives you a sense of the movement they were in. Could never be another band like this.If your looking for well structured songs, this will not be your cup of tea. But, if you are a music historian and want to hear what it is like to hear great musicians experiment (Clapton and crew) then this is the one for you.Read full review
