Being a person that is not a big fan of shoot'em up type of games this game appealed to me specially because it was a game that focused around The Punisher. He was always a favorite of mine in the comic book world. This game does truly pay homage to him in first class fashion and his stone cold mentality. If you're someone that is a death incarnate Activision spared no expense to cater to your needs on here. The game tells a very good and interesting story that will keep you wanting to play it more and more until the end. There is a HUGE arsenal of weapons for The Punisher to use throughout the game. Another cool thing about the game is before you embark on each new mission the game gives you the option of changing your weapons if you want to, so you can go into the next mission equipped with whatever you want or whatever weapons you have unlocked by that point. So not necessarily what you ended the last mission with is what you have to go into the next mission with. But to make up for that you have the ability of picking up several different types of guns along the way throughout whatever mission you're on in various secret areas, and of course after killing enemies along the way you can take their weapons if you so choose to. The stages you go through are pretty easily mapped out in knowing where to go next. But some are kind of tricky in the fashion of having to procure a key or something to get to another area or complete a level. The bosses on the game for the most part are pretty easy, but there are a few you might get mildly frustrated with, but if playing against them enough you'll eventually figure out how to beat them. An interesting and yet fun addition to the game on here also is there are various unique ways to torture enemies to get special information out of them using your surroundings. There is also a way to do really special kills as well on here. Just so it's clear though this game is not strongly based off either Punisher movie made. The game has the appearance of the Yakuza from the original Punisher film from 1989 with Dolph Lundgren. But the game is more based in some aspects from the movie in 2004 with Thomas Jane who ironically does the voice over for The Punisher on this game which is a big plus for authenticity. Certain characters from the 2004 movie are on this game as you'll notice the more you play it. The game will definitely keep you busy trying to unlock the tons of stuff on here. The Challenge mode on here is a blast to play also. But all and all the game is great and I don't think any Punisher fan will be disappointed with it.Read full review
Initially, I bought this game because I wanted to blast criminals all day long, and that's exactly what I got. There were enough bad guys here to keep me busy for a couple of hours (not to say that this game was short, because it wasn't), and the graphics were okay. There were plenty of weapons at my disposal, however the only thing I didn't like was trying to throw grenades or flash bombs. What would've made this better was if Frank Castle had one of those "Matrix" slo-motions when he jumped to either side, forward, or backward. The interrogation mode is cool, but not when you have four or five guys trying to dispatch you. After completing this game there were still some modes that kept me busy such as Punishment Mode, and Challenge mode; also trying to beat the game at a higher difficulty. The other thing that would've made this game better was more Feature Motion Video, the story for some reason felt incomplete. The last and final thing I would've appreciated was more gore, there wasn't enough. Heads blowing like watermelons, and slicing necks are up my alley when playing a game like this, however there wasn't enough! It's The Punisher for a reason. Aside from that the game still amused me, I would give this game a GOOD rating, however, the aforementioned additions that I found lacking in the game brought it down to an Average. Get this game if you're down for some slicing and blasting action; but if you want something superior than just rent this sucker.Read full review

Punisher for PS2 was always my favorite game since its release in 2005. It's a PS2/Xbox game, which means it will never have PS3 graphics or playability for people that love the online world, but it stands out as being my favorite game of all time (graphics were however great for its time, and gameplay is smooth even for todays standards). I have always been a huge Punisher fan, so I am a little bias for this game. It satisfies all of the fun of being the Punisher, being a very well designed game -- It has an over-the-top, in depth storyline, plenty of Punisher weaponry, brutal action, always fresh environment interactions, great characters Punisher fans know and love, and of course, great voice acting by Tom Jane. The controls are very nice and fitting, and gameplay and movement is smooth and without many downsides. Overall, the game achieved the feeling of being in the Punishers world of violence without trying too hard, or watering it down. It is a classic PS2 game that to me will always be gold.Read full review
