I have owned several Nikon film cameras and still own a Nikon D90 and D100. The new D5300 is a great improvement. The rotatable back panel display is 3.2 in, much larger than my prior cameras and as large as the new Nikon D5 ($6497). The camera has very low read noise, which makes it great for astrophotography. The camera allows HDR photography and has an intervalometer that can be used for time lapse.

Not only is this camera in red beautiful, it takes absolutely gorgeous pics. The GPS feature is really cool for taking pics in the mountains for keeping track of when and where and the wifi feature for transfering pics to my iphone is awesome as well. I like it much better than my old D5100. Still learning the upgraded camera features but overall this was an excellent buy ($450 new) for taking my amature level of Photography up a notch. I am using a 18-55mm VR II Nikon lens with this camera.

I wanted a camera with excellent image quality for portraits and this camera fits the bill. It also was a great value in that it was much less pricey then some of the higher end full frame Nikon's but there is absolutely no cutting corners on image quality.
