If you like cool and vintage guitars, John Entwistle and the Who, this book is for you. The book itself is good sized, well prnted on good paper. The forward by Roger is quite nice. Rick Neilsen's forward is good too. I live in the same town and know Rick and the photographers as well. What Rick doesnt mention in his forward is that he also has a huge collection of guitars and has a incredible amount of knowledge on the subject. The photos are shot in and around Entwistle's manor(this is the same place you see in The Kids Are Alright movie when JE wlks doe=own the stairs looking at guitars and the shoots gold records in the yards. JE died before the book was finished but he has a lot of little anecdotes and notes on various basses and guitars. Ive been a WHO/JE fan for years and I learned a few things that I never knew lke JE pretty much quit using basses with wood necks and switched to ones made with composit necks after the Live Aid show. He mentions this on the page with a custom made bass that he said he had another one but smashed it after it "betrayed him" at that show. He has almost eveerything in here. A ton of Fender basses mostly custom colors. The Danelectro he recorded My Generation with. Gibson Thunderbird,LP, SG,Flying Vees,Explorer,Moderne, too many to mention. A fine collection of Gretchs mostly all orange. His collection of custom made basses, the buzzards the warwicks etc. guitars and basses that were given to him as promo or swag. The axes are all in top condition as he has traded up for better examples thru the years. Whats pretty wild is none of these guitars are photographed in stands, they are leaning on things and some just seem to be standing up with no support. Next time I see RN I've got to ask him how the hell did they get these guitars stay up for the photos. A couple of notable Entwistle basses that are absent are the "Fenderbirds"(he took a 66-69 Gibson T-bird and had Fender necks put on them and set the bridge back a little bit he used these alot in the early seventies) and the bass he used in the Eysight to the Blind scene from The Tommy movie,I always thought that was a cool looking bass. Mybe he didnt have these anymore or just had too many other cream of the crop axes to put them in. If you enjoy cool vintage guitars and or like JE/WHO you will love this book. BUY ITRead full review
I’ve been watching this book for a year now and it runs from $40-100. Pricey but heard it was worth it. Geddys bass book is the gold standard, but this one is second best. Very nicely put together with some insight into John’s personality. The Ox biography is a nice companion piece, and much more affordable.

Very colorful book, written very playfully. Great item for those looking to study up on their Entwistle.
