About this product

Product Information

Players fly into the future of a brave new world, as the richly detailed (but wholly unfriendly) skies of Namco's Ace Combat return to Xbox 360. Following the series' proven formula, Assault Horizon combines fast, forgiving, arcade-style flight combat with authentically modeled aircraft and realistic background landscapes. Refinements include a "close range" combat system, which tests the virtual pilot's agility at supersonic speeds in 3D space. Helicopters are prominently featured in the game, with players taking the roles of both pilot and gunner.

Improvements to damage modeling viscerally intensify the widespread destruction of ground targets, and cutting-edge aircraft explode into countless constituent parts with a well-placed missile hit. Multiplayer sorties are supported with competitive and cooperative online modes. The game's story is not within the established narrative of the series' number-titled sequels. As in Joint Assault for PlayStation Portable, Assault Horizon takes place in a near-future imagining of the real world, instead of in fictional nations of the alternate-reality Earth where earlier games in the series are set.

Flying for the United States Air Force, players engage in high-altitude battle and tactical support assignments, in airborne assaults against the nation's most dangerous enemies around the world. Along with a hanger of helicopters and bombers, missions make ample use of workhorse fighters such as the F-16, F-22, and F-35. The geopolitically tumultuous plot line was written by Jim DeFelice, author of The Golden Flask, Leopards Kill, and other military thrillers.

    Good Game

The game play is a bit difficult, even on the easiest setting, and the control buttons are different from most games, but once you figure out what to push and when, it is a good game. If you are a diehard pilot (or wannabee pilot) this is great experience, and there are enough hints and help (Icon to locate your target stays on your HUD) it is well worth the money.

Lots of Bang, but No Cigar. For novice players.

If you're like me and a big fan of Air Combat 6 you'd be tempted to try this game. But it's false advertising because this is not really an Ace Combat Game. They've added missions for helicopter and bombers. They've integrated a Close Combat mode for attacking enemy fighters. You basically just lock on and shoot. When fighting Enemy Aces, it's the only way to get them. You try your best to get really close (markers light up on the enemy fighters as a prompt), press A and B to lock on and then you're right on their tail and can blast them out of the sky. You're locked in like a mini-arcade sequence. It's simplified to the point of a turkey shoot. The graphics and lay outs are excellent and there are plenty of great explosions. It quickly becomes really monotonous and repetitive ...

  • Arcade style shooter first, flight sim second.

I feel like most of the negative reviews were expecting a flight simulator like the regular Ace Combat games rather than over-the-top action. If I were training to be a fighter pilot, I would look to the regular Ace Combat games, but this spin-off was meant to be an arcade style shooter with more extra custom option/features than your usual After Burner game. Quite honestly, I’m bummed that the Ace Combat franchise stopped making more of the Action Style Shooters like Assault Horizon, so here I am in 2021 on Ebay trying to reclaim my fond memories. Even tho this was created for the Xbox 360, it still holds up today in graphics, gameplay, soundtrack, and design. Definitely worth adding to your Xbox collection!

  • If you enjoy flight simulator games then this one will not disappoint...

Superb graphics, fun story-line, responsive flight controls and awesome additions (like helicopter side-gunner missions). Totally glad this game is in my collection, but you've gotta love being in the cockpit else this game won't be for you. If you enjoy flight simulator games then this one will not disappoint. It's great fun for a fair price and we pop in a couple times per week just to get that fix for an action packed sortie ;)

  • Intense Air Combat, big bang for little bank.

I purchased this game because I enjoyed the demo a few years back. I have been sucked into the game since I've had it. The number of aircraft given to fly, and this different scenarios make it continuously entertaining. I haven't played a air combat game this entertaining since Windows 98. The graphics are sweet, and the dogfights gain complexity and difficulty as you progress. It is a bit acradey, but its the best console flight game I have ever played. Worth the money.
