"Drink up, me hearties!" "Pirates of the Caribbean" was never intended to be a series, but the sheer success of the first movie made a sequel inevitable. Fortunately, "Dead Man's Chest" retains the same excellent creative team and cast, and attempts to make a pirate movie so bold it will even top its predecessor. With the first movie having already mined so many staples of the pirate genre, it's hard to see how the sequel could go further. But go further it did, with a heady brew of real history mixed with old-fashioned sailors' tall tales. Thus, we have the inspired creation of Davy Jones, the spirit of the sea, as incarnated by Bill Nighy beneath a ton of CGI. Jones looks amazing, his head formed of an octopus, his beard of tentacles, and his ship similarly half made of marine life. Then, too, a new villain in the form of Lord Cutler Beckett, slimy head of the East India Trading Company. Beckett wants to exterminate piracy - it's just good business. Trying to escape these twin menaces gives Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow the chance to indulge in some fantastic set pieces including a three handed swordfight on a runaway water wheel and an appointment with a cannibal tribe's cooking pot! The cast are as much fun as ever, Depp in particular finding new angles for his likeable comic rogue. Orlando Bloom's Will Turner is also well-fleshed out, with a new, shadowy agenda. It's a long movie, but an unremitting rollercoaster ride of fun too. Yo ho ho!Read full review
Unless you have seen and 'experienced' the film, this soundtrack would not really raise an eyebrow. But for those 'Avids' who found the music helped set the scene then you can listen and re-live the film though this dimension. Well recorded (well it is Disney so would not expect less)and Hans Zimmer is a first class composer (have you seen the number of film and TV scores he has written.?!). Well worth a listen..!!
OK, the lead line is cheesy, but the music certainly is not !! Powerful lines and themes all the way through. Bonus track, not from the film, but inspired by the Pirate series. Great track to drive to. Overall one of Hans Zinner's top soundtracks.
A really good CD. I liked all the tracks except for the last one which sounds 'Techno' and doesn't fit in with the rest of the CD. A good buy.
if i didnt like classical music i wouldnt like this soundtrack at all so im enjoying this i just hoped they would have the track jack sings about rum with elizabeth just to lighten the mood a bit cos its so funny..... good tracks
I love the whole CD I have the 3rd cd "At Worlds End" and I always wanted this one too but could never get it anywhere!! Now all I gotta do is buy the first cd "Curse of the Black Pearl" and I'll be all set!!!
