In a word: certainly. They took the liberty of adding a number of new features to the game. Some of them hit the mark; some of them did not. I Wrote this originally in Word, but came to find out it was more than twice as long as eBay allows, So forgive me but i'm going to be skipping much that I had written and go to War of The Ring mode. Many things have been changed from the 'vanilla' version of the game to this expansion. I will explain the main points in brief: -Concerning changes to the Create-a-Hero functionality, (this affects anything you might use your Create-a-Hero for): You now have full control over how much your hero costs, directly linked to how many powers you give your hero. Cheap with no powers to expansive with full palantir. New powers and one new hero type are available. The new hero type is trolls. They are good for one thing: meta-damage.(Yah!) -Concerning changes to the strategic map: Money is now a concern. You now earn money from your fortresses and farms for use on the strategic map. It is used for building units and buildings. Farms are free, so even if you have no money you can increase your income (this becomes extremely useful as I’ll explain below.) Money you earn in a battle is not carried over to the strategic map and vice versa. New maps and scenarios are available, which was a nice change from the old maps. For those of you who enjoy defending a good fortress, don’t get excited; the new ones are paltry and weak. The original map we are all use to have been cut into more territories. The new maps are fun. You can now carry over units from battle onto the strategic map. Wow, they really messed this one up. Consider this. You go into a battle and build just elite units and upgrade them. You defeat your enemy. You can take all of your new army with you. Your opponent gets nothing. You now take those new units and spread them around. You now have a couple of units to start every battle, ensuring your victory. In each battle you get more units. In each battle the enemy gets none. Do you see the problem? Of course the enemy can build their own units on the strategic map, but not fast enough to counter you’re fast expanding forces. The other thing they botched here is this: Each new unit you bring in from a battle costs you money. Sounds reasonable, right? Wrong, it costs you the money but you don’t need the money in your reserves to get the unit. So, if each of your heroes fights a battle in a day and wins, and you keep all your new units from those battles it gets costly, right? Yes it does, you’re 20,000 in debt, but you don't care. Each territory you're defending has an army in it. Your debt does not affect battles; you go in and get just as much as before at the start of the battle. While in debt all you can build is your free farms to increase your daily income. But you have so many units in each territory that they can't touch you. Eventually you come out of debt, because you can just disband all new units from battles before they cost you. This is the worst part. Now if the enemy ‘thinks’ it is outmatched it retreats from the battle. This speeds up the overall war-of-the-ring mode, and can help you ‘win’ those battles you didn’t think you could win just by building up a few defenses and waiting them out. I found that after about eight minutes the enemy retreats in every case! Sorry, you missed out on a lot I had written, I hope this was enough. Good day.Read full review

This is a great expansion. I loved both Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2. This expansion really impressed me with more content than I expected.
I'm a big fan of Lord of the Rings production and it's one of my favorite movies of all time, when the game first came out, I didn't pay much attention but then when version 2 came out and then the expansion pack (The Rise of the Witch-King) I started to find myself not leaving home and skipping outing just to play and play, this game is great is all aspects, the music, layout, graphics and everything else ...
Awesome!
