The Canon ES-8400V Camcorder is a nice, simple-to-use camcorder with a friendly interface and decent picture quality. I trust in Canon optics, such as their lenses and imagers, and this Canon has a decent lens on it, with 20x optical zoom .. the digital zoom is worthless in my opinion on any camera due to the pixelization toward larger zoom numbers. The only concern I have is that the tape mechanism on these Canons seems flimsy, it is kind of noisy during loading and unloading a tape; however, I have yet to have a problem with it. This camcorder creates good analog video and excellent sound quality .. I would recommend it to someone looking for a good used analog (Hi8) camcorder. It is equipped with S-Video out as well. Thanks!
Size is nice especially if you like the feel of a traditional camcorder. I bought a digital camcorder and was not pleased with feel of the camcorder when recording. I had a bunch of 8mm tapes and decided to get the camcorder just to play the tapes but it has now replaced my digital camcorder :) Tapes are still relatively cheap for the 8mm and you get great sound quality. Dislike that the only way to play the tapes is through camcorder, maybe a remote is available? Zoom and image stabilizer make this super user friendly. Also has a tripod attachment option. great buy!
Bought the camcorder to transfer very old 8mm tapes to DVD. Worked very well in that regard, and it is an excellent camera, also. Very good lens set with 22X zoom, and it is easy to use. Not much to dislike about it. Son will take it to grad school this fall.
we like the flip-out screen. worth the cost per value. why buy new when you can buy used and receive more for your pay. this video camera has found a happy home. thank-you for making sure you sent the guidelines manual. this was essential for finding-out how it operates. this was my husband's first ebay purchase and we can happily say we are satisfied- a dog chewed-up our last video camera;)
I originally owned this camera back in the day.. I used it for all family events.. 2003 or so.. I have tons of HI8 tapes.. my old one finally died and i always said id buy another.. i found this camera on Ebay used.. i grabbed it and its been flawless..
