I missed this CBS series when it originally aired but got hooked on it in reruns on one of my HD channels. The series was great although you had to look past all of the inaccuracies. The plot of the show is how the people of Jericho Kansas cope with a terrorists' nuclear attack on 21 American cities. According to the series, Washington DC and the majority of the US government is gone, as are Atlanta, L.A., Boston, Denver and other major cities. Miraculously, New York is spared. The terrorists used small yield nuclear devices which in reality would have only destroyed or heavily damaged a few square miles, yet the series leads you to believe that "everything" is gone. The residents contend with a lack of running water or electricity, fuel, food and medicine. At any rate, the series features above average acting and a lot of sub-plots which keep the viewer interested. In reality, you either love the series or you hate it. My wife and I loved it and really got engossed in the personal lives of the characters.Read full review
But this series was different, in that it presented not only a scenario that is all together plausable, but horrifyingly plausable. The parallels between what is in this series and what I see every day in the world is all too disturbingly similar and to watch how grass roots America could possibly survive such a horror, was deeply satisfying. To see So many positive role models of both men and women who stepped up to the plate and did what was necessary for their families, neighbors and Nation, was refreshing. It was like a breath of fresh air. It was like TV programming from back when I was a boy WHERE IT WAS EXPECTED THAT AMERICAN MEN AND WOMEN, WOULD STEP UP AND DO WHATEVER WAS NEEDED FOR THEIR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES. THIS WAS AMERICA AS I GREW UP IN IT, WHERE THE AVERAGE JOE IN THE STREET STEPS UP AND BECOMES THE NEEDED HERO. What was disturbing, was that CBS pulled the Show so fast when it really started becoming interesting. I have always wondered if it was pulled because there are plans for just such Events sitting in some vault somewhere. Recent history and events argue strongly in favor of that paranoid train of thought. Why else would our Government has 800+ FEMA Camps scattered across the Nation, capable of housing tens of millions of Americans? Even more disturbing is that the political division maps shown in the series, are the same maps FEMA and the Ministry of Reich Security uses to depict "Administration Zones" for America in the Event of National Emergency. The States and their governments cease to exist in those maps and Plans. And are replaced by UNELECTED ADMINISTRATORS. A terrifying and Unconstitutional usurpation of Power over the Citizens. I use this series to motivate me to be politically active and fight off the day where such an usurpation might happen. The Possibility is there, that individuals and organizations might try to stage such a "False Flag" attack to seize power. History is full of similar "conspiracies" that just happened to be true, much to the dismay of the people in those nations. The Series shows that Life can go on and that Americans can recover from any disaster, whether it is Natural or Man Made. That is why I like this series.Read full review
In the minds of just about every human being on the planet, nuclear apocalypse reigns supreme on the list of horrifying "End of the World" scenarios. Jericho takes that premise and turns it slightly sideways by showing us a small town in Kansas where the initial, obvious effects of nuclear war wouldn't quite reach (far away from blast centers, far enough away that fallout was minimal, etc.). What the show does with impressive bravado is paint the audience a picture of how secondary considerations would become the focus in this kind of event. Amidst the everyday problems of a small town community (politics, rivalries, relationships, etc.), we see them struggling with basic needs such as food supply, power for heat, and most frighteningly - information. The town is cut off from all sources of information - as is the audience, as a result. This allows the viewer to feel more immersed in the situation. The writers do a really great job at keeping "omnipotence" away for the audience - leaving the viewer intrigued and begging for any kind of consolation to ease their mind. In turn, we are quick to empathize with the characters and feel more invested in how things will turn out. The show is smart, entertaining, and has a lot of heart. It was canceled after its first 22 episodes, until fans buried CBS offices in New York with over 20 tons of nuts in protest. CBS was gracious enough to reconsider and order 7 more episodes of the series. Season 2 was born. It wraps up a most of the story but leave a little if they ever wanted to do more.Read full review
Jericho season 2 takes up where season 1 left off . It introduces some new elements while continuing the character story lines that kept you interested. This series is very well done and the acting is suberb. A note for Jericho newbies, you can now buy the Seasons 1 and 2 in one set and save some money (right here on Ebay), or if you only saw season 1, season two is now out (this one) and you should see some used copies pop up soon at a discount over retail! I wish this show was ongoing as others have stated as well. Like the show Roswell, it had something that brought the drew people in so much so they revived the show , at least for an abbreviated return (in this case the 2nd season). I am sure you will enjoy this show! Even my teen daughter is into it, so we watch it as a family!
"Jericho" is unlike any series I've ever watched. I love the balance of action and suspense with realistic, multi-dimensional characters and complex relationships. Season 2 has given us a fast-paced story, but not without the flavor that we came to love in Season 1. Each episode in this serialized drama is well-written and brought to life by a talented cast and crew. "Jericho" is a show that my husband, my son, and I all enjoy--and there aren't too many series that we all like! Can't wait for the DVD.
