I had Palm phones for years (had a palm pilot before they branched into forms) and loved their highly functional devices, especially for business use. However, when the switched to web os, the two phones they introduced just didn't work for me. I moved to Android and that is so NOT a business phone. Hated it! I'm sure there are some people who love the bells and whistles, but it doesn't work if you need FUNCTIONAL. I was leaning toward Blackberry and wish I had done that with my upgrade, but since I lost my upgrade, I got the 8530 curve from ebay. Love it! It is highly functional and works very well, easily integrates with my office, home, and web email that I use strictly for purchases. It has a few bells and whistles of its own, but I'm not going that way again -- I NEED FUNCTION! I would have given it an excellent but there are a couple of things that take too many clicks to complete. If i'm in the phone ap and select a contact, and I don't want be given texting options -- I would have chosen text for that! Also, there should be more options available for snoozing an appointment, similar to outlook. 5 minute increments up to 2 weeks would be optimal. If you have are in an environment where your workload is CONSTANTLY being piled on so that you have to sometimes select to put something on the back-burner, you should be able to snooze for more than 30 minutes! This is really a pet peeve for me; I have to end up opening the appointment, which I'm not always in a position to do. Other than that, I love the other options on this phone. OH, and gthe speaker is so good that I use it for music without headphones, for radio, and for podcast listening. As for blue tooth, was shocked that when I paired it with my car's bluetooth, it automatically uploaded my contacts! That was really a pleasant surprise.Read full review
The phone itself is great and it is as it was described. However, I had a problem with transferring my memory card and had to format it to the phone, which meant I lost all the photos and music I was trying to save! Also the bluetooth refused to work, saying that the "object push profile" could not be found, now I have no idea what that means other than I am going to have to put it into a shop to find out how to get my bluetooth working!! :( this could just be a one off and looking at the reviews before, I haven't seen any other complaints about the same problems, so hopefully I am the only one. It is a lovely phone and, other than those two problems I had, it is easy to use.
Featuring a metallic finish, clean lines and soft edges, the BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone is the smallest and lightest BlackBerry smartphone ever to come with a full QWERTY keyboard. It's packed with incredible features, including a camera, a multi-media player, built-in GPS, expandable memory, Voice Dialing, BlackBerry Maps and trackball navigation. Plus, you get all the core functionality you've come to expect in a BlackBerry smartphone - email and text messaging, instant messaging, web browser and advanced phone functionality. The BlackBerry Curve - it's your connection to everything that matters.
About the phone. The curve is a rock solid product. They work and generally work very well. Remember that this is not the most modern phone but rather the first on Crickets smartphones. The gps will work in non assisted mode which is a big plus. Browser works well considering its bbOS 5. Email works extremely well. The screen could be a bit sharper. Its not awful or unusable but on web pages it could be a bit sharper. If on Wifi you will crash the phone. This is a common problem on Blackberrys and waiting for Rim to fix it. Crickets network is after all a limiting factor. They don't support BES, only BIS. BES is when you have your blackberry server, Bis is ones that cricket has. BES is better for Corporates, BIS is for small entities.
Thanks for the opportunity via this medium to share. I was desirous of getting a Blackberry for my daughter. This work out well, the services offer the quality of the phone. Yet, I made one error, I did not check for the usage through a SIM card. Turned out that i ws unable to use the phone since i live outside mainland USA. My service provides only provide through SIM card. Nonetheless it was a great buy only regret is i can't use it. I would like to suggest that this is clearly indicated in the future to avoid this inconvinience to others. Thanks once again it was nice doing business with you. Oliver Wallace
Here are some highlights of the phone: * Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) * Bluetooth 2.1 * GPS * 256mb internal memory * 528MHz processor * 2.0mp camera * Dedicated media keys * microSD expandable up to 32gb Blackberry 8530 slightly smaller than other BlackBerry models. It doesn't have any flashy onyx or chrome highlighting. The all black design look sporty. The rubberized surrounding feels good in your hands and contributes to the overall simplicity. When compared to the old Curve 8330 it is slightly thinner, a little taller, and a little less wide Connectivity Luckily, like with the new Storm2, BlackBerry added Wi-Fi! As some of you know, Wi-Fi. Only certain phones previously had Wi-Fi, but now it seems every new smart phone that rolls out is getting it. Finally. The Curve, unlike the Storm2 and Tour, is CDMA only. This means that it can not be used on GSM networks. Unfortunately they only gave it a 1xEV-DO rev.0 data connection and not the rev.A, which is a little bit faster Camera & Media The camera on the Curve could be better. It's only 2 megapixels and doesn't include a flash. Pictures are okay if you're in a well lit room, but they come out a bit grainy You can pretty much forget about getting good pictures in low light situations. Here is a picture taken in best case scenario with good lighting. They QWERTY keyboard somehow feels bigger to your thumbs than it appears. This is due to the way BlackBerry angled the top of the keys. However, after using the keyboard on the BlackBerry Tour for a bit, I prefer the Tour. BlackBerry made the keys on the two devices slightly different. I really liked the addition of the trackpad. It seems that BlackBerry is moving away from the noisy trackball. It feels like a little mouse for your thumb, to put it simply. I had no problem getting used to it. I think that previous trackball users will really appreciate the trackpad. The standard BlackBerry send, menu, back, and end surround the trackpad extending off of the same piece of plastic used for the screen.Read full review
I bought it for a friend and gave it a try , I like the idea of getting my emails and having all those features blackberry has but I would not buy this for myself at less I'm some kind of business person it's way more than I need. One thing I don't like is about the keyboard they're to small for me I have thin fingers and I still keep pressing the wrong keys. Even that I could get use to the keyboard with practice as I said before this is more than I need and will not buy it for me.
I had used a blackberry curve 8330 with cricket and really loved the phone but decided to switch to the 8530 since it would be able to take advantage of cricket's blackberry plan where features such as apps, email, and such would work. The 8530 is a great phone and is a little more powerful than the 8330. I like the fact it has WiFi and the trackpad is much better than the old trackball. Due to the added features of the phone, the battery does not hold a charge as long as the 8330 did, but using an extended battery gives plenty of battery life while still allowing the use of all the extra features. Call quality is great, the keypad is easy to use, web browsing is pretty quick, and media quality such as music, photos, and videos are great as well. The camera takes great photos and video, but I do wish blackberry had not taken away the flash feature that the 8330 had but this phone does not. The location of the mini sd card slot is much more convenient than the 8330, you still have to remove the battery door to access it, but no need to remove the battery and wait for a re-boot and no tricky latch to deal with, it simply slides into it's slot and slides back out. All in all this is really an excellent phone especially if you are on the cricket network due to the limited choice of phones that will work with all the additional features.Read full review
I have always had a problem with phones... I use because other people want me to use them but I hate people keeping track of where I am all the time and every time I really needed a phone someone offered one right there so I could use just than instead of having to carry one all the time myself and keeping track of battery life, who called, having to hear messages and all these things. My husband finally told me he would buy me one and I was browsing and liked the way the Blackberry looks. I found the one and today I am using it more often. I am still learning to do a lot of things but I like the camera and the agenda where I can put all my class schedule, doctor appointments. One thing I think is inconvenient is the size of the buttons, they are extra small. I rarely text but every time I turn the phone on I have to type the code and it is hard to press the little tiny numbers. Other than that I am really pleased and people around me are as well. They know I can be found anytime now.Read full review
This cellphone is very girly but classy. I had the same one before but I lost it and I just had to get the same phone all over again even though my dad offered an upgrade. It's a perfect accessory when you're hanging with your girlfriends or even for business purposes. It has every feature you can possibly need; perfect for calls, texting, emails, web browsing, music, photos, and videos, organizing tasks, etc. It has an extremely long battery life. I text all day and still have charge by the end of the day. The battery has never died on me. I think I am keeping this phone forever. I love it so much!
