    This series is one of television's gems but it doesn't get he respect )in my opinion) from Emmy voters & critics in this country! However, the program has a worldwide cult following & in England it is a national obsession! Start with the attention to detail in the setting-a poor London suburb (Poplar) in the late 1950's to (as this tenth season starts) 1966. The clothing & sets reflect the time perfectly! Then, the writing kicks in. Led by the brilliant Heidi Thomas the writers know how to pull out every emotion in the book! The acting ensemble is first-rate (including a future Academy Award winner).     If you are a fan of Call The Midwife the best way to view is on a DVD. There are scenes on the DVD’s that were not on the PBS airing of the show. Plus you can view them anytime and don’t have to wait for a download or a viewing schedule.
