With the Sunpak 555 handle mount flash, you can manipulate shadows and create a perfectly illuminated backdrop and foreground for imagery. The Sunpak 555 flash can be attached to the base of your camera with a bracket, but is also a popular choice for off-camera lighting. It has a tripod/light stand threaded bottom for such use, and its powerful lighting make the Sunpak 555 a viable off- camera light source. This flash accepts several power sources (battery cluster, power packs, etc) to meet your photography needs in any location. It can be powered by six AA batteries, a CL-2 NiCD battery cluster, an AC adapter, or the high voltage TR-PakII NiCd power pack. This flash is also capable of TTL dedication, when used with a Sunpak EXT-11 dedicated extension cord, and determines the accurate flash measurement for any given photo. In addition to TTL, the Sunpak 555 has an auto capability and manual flash control from full to 1/64 power, allowing you to customize your lighting for any shoot. The Sunpak 555 has a guide number of 150 feet with ISO 100 film, assuring ample power. The auto range of the Sunpak 555 handle mount flash extends from 1.6 to more than 107 feet (over a 7-aperture range), and makes this flash a great choice for shooting over long distances. The output is powerful, leaving you with many aperture setting options and choice of reflector/diffuser. The dimensions of the Sunpak 555 are 10" x 4" x 3.9", making this flash even better for photographers in the field. The small size is perfect for traveling, will not take up much room in your equipment bag, and delivers reliable and powerful lighting. The Sunpak 555 handle mount flash has a recycle time of 9 seconds on full power, to keep you shooting longer. The Sunpak 555 is a robust system from the module and cable to the bracket base and handle. This handle mount flash works very well with 35mm SLR cameras, and has plenty of power to use with longer distances and slower films and light modifiers.     A very good durable flash with enough power.

    I use this flash on a light stand and sometimes modify it with a small Photoflex softbox. It is powerful enough for my outdoor photography, shooting little league teams and indoor sport events. I really like that the controls are on the back as I use it on manual most of the time. Tha rechargeable batteries I use last a very long time. If this fails I would try to find another one. Just a good durable flash.

    Solid--Get this flash.

    This is a great flash for the price. It has a good amount of power with a nice flash duration (at around 1/2 power) for freezing action. I use a couple of them shooting skateboarding and snowboarding off camera, they've proven to be quite durable.Somewhat bulky and hard to fit in camera bags. Battery life is OK, but it does use 6-Stock up on batteries or get some decent rechargeable ones.

    the best of flashes

    Love this guy, it is a spare and my 3rd one, I do at times use all 3, but the fact that they are no longer made push me to put a couple on the shelf for future use. I think this is the best flash ever made surely the most functional. I can't imagine walking around with a flash stuck on top of my camera secured only by the shoe, the 555 is a great flash and if you must use a flash the side mount makes it easy.

    Excellent low cost strobes for mobile event use.

    These are fantastic strobes that are heavy duty and can take a beating and still wake up the next day for the next shoot. I tend to modify them for longer battery life and use them off camera. The only downside is that they are difficult to repair. But they typically last a few years and tens of thousands of flashes.
