Having traversed my way through myriad new phones only to find them all cheaply made, overpriced and having a lifespan of about 6 months, I decided to go "old school" and go back to the Treo I owned some 2 years ago. It is a solid device that can withstand the daily rigors of my travels. It syncs directly with my Windows PC (Outlook, Media, etc.), has Blue Tooth AND IR,and it offers a full sized SD card slot. And it just feels like a phone, not a toy. It uses the Windows Mobile OS, a touch/tap screen and at it's inception, was years ahead of the Mac alternative (iPods/iPhones). It resembles the Pocket PC's that I have used (and still do) and presents a familiar & easy to use interface. Battery life is excellent and changing batteries (I always travel with a spare) is effortless. Having this device may seem too old school for some- those slaves to the latest and "greatest", but if you are looking for a phone that is more like a very small laptop, I highly recommend this one. The only dislike that I can register is that it uses Internet Explorer for it's browser, which sometimes renders web pages full sized and therefore hard to read, but enough of the sites that I visit have Mobile or Phone rendered pages and this more than makes up for it.Read full review
Nothing about the Palm Treo 800 is mind blowing or cutting edge. That being said, its probably the most under appreciated phone I've ever used. Windows 6.1 is easy to use and this phone handles it well. Texting is breeze and its touch screen is rather responsive with the stylus. Wifi works better than the wifi on my Blackberry Curve 8530, by that I mean it has better range. The camera is decent, the media player is awesome, and the expansion slot allows for up to 8 more gigs of memory for storage....Its a very solid and well made phone. Unlike the newer Palms and Blackberries, it can take a fall or two and not be destroyed. Now that's all the good things, it is not all a bed of roses. If the battery happens to drain completely it takes forever for it to get enough juice to power back on. I say "forever" but what I mean is 30 to 45 minutes sometimes, which seems like forever if you are in the middle of something. But I found if you charge it every night it easily makes it through a 12- 16 hour day of medium usage..... Also this isn't the most stylish phone either, if fact its kind of brick like, but that's the trade off for being so solid I guess. It does lag every once in a while, but I found a simple battery pull to free up internal memory does the trick. (Like rebooting you computer ladies and gentleman) Here is my bottom line on this phone..... Its PREFECT for a replacement or back-up phone to get you through until your next upgrade or what have you..... IF, that is, you can get it used for under 75 bucks or so here on Ebay. Spending any more than that and you might want to get a Treo Pro or Blackberry 8330. Its also a great phone for a teenagers first smart phone. Its solid, it will take a beating, its great for texting, and with its touch screen and windows 6.1 operating system, its still "cool" enough for them not to be embarrassed to use it. (which all of us parents know is the really important thing anyway) That's my two cents hope this helps.Read full review
I love this phone. It is my first of this type so I have nothing to compare it with. My phone was a gift and came with three batteries. Yes it does drain batteries fast if you don't close down apps from the Task Manager. My pet peeve is the speaker. It is not worth a darn. Also there is a learning curve jumping from phone to PDA. The camera is great and I use it for headshots and quickies for the social networks more than I do my digi-cam. It is a heavy phone, also a sturdy phone. I have dropped it a couple of times. Also went out in rain and it gave me a bit of a fit, but came back tried and true after drying out. But, just in case, I just bought another one. The new phone works on WIFI and hasn't even been activated with my carrier. I plan to leave it that way for now. Neat little computer and comes with many Windows apps. I love this phone. One was a charm, but now two is heaven. ;-DRead full review
I titled it this b/c these are the only two PDA phones I have owned. There are pros and cons to both! Treo: Love the today screen Love the touchscreen Love the calendar and how it makes you aware of your appointments My exchange email work on the treo Curve: Love the stability of the phone Love the camera Love the quality when talking on the phone I truly think that if I had purchased the Treo first I would have never bought the curve and would have nothing to compare it to. If palm and black berry would unite that would be awesome. I hope this review helps anyone planning on purchasing a black berry or a palm. On one more note b/c the biggest complaint I have seen is about the Treo 800's battery life, I say to those who have complained they must have beign using the internet a whole bunch my batter lasts all day, and I use the internet, email, and calendar constantly. My Treo also charges in about 45 minutes with a full charge. It really is a very neat phone.Read full review
We used this phone with our office staff from the time it first came out about two years ago until a month ago and were very impressed with it. Obviously technology changes and builds upon strengths and weaknesses of predecessors, so we felt we needed to finally upgraded. The Palm Treo 800w is a solid phone. While it probably wouldn't be able to be thrown across the room and come out alright, it took several small falls and continued to work fine. The upload and download speeds when using the internet are slow though. So as a phone and an organizer, this phone works well. But if you're using it to surf the internet, might want to try a different phone.
