This album works on so many levels. It's a live album, a greatest hits album and also a rarely- heard soundtrack of songs. I was interested in hearing early Elton...' Bad side of the Moon, Burn down the Mission, and Country Comfort.' All the hits are here...'Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, Your Song' , and the excellent musical marathon... 'Funeral for a friend/ Love lies bleeding.' There are even a few songs I had never heard before, like 'You're So Static" and 'Skyline Pigeon'. An added bonus is the Elton John/ John Lennon duets at the end of side 2 of the disc. A minor criticism of the concerts is I don't think is was necessary to have two versions of Take me to the Pilot and Your Song. I bought this LP record (yes, the old vinyl)back when it first came out in the 70's. It was one of those "under the radar" releases during the height of Yellow Brick Road and Captain Fantastic. This album, to me, represented EJ's best band and sound he had and has to this day, IMO. I was so thrilled having not heard this recording in close to 40 years. BTW, I am a drummer and Nigel Olsson (the featured drummer on this CD) is my hero and one of the best singer/drummers the world has known. The sound is incredible!I bought this LP record (yes, the old vinyl)back when it first came out in the 70's. Great one from the GREAT ONE.
Of all LIVE rock and roll recordings (and they're all good) there are 5 I declare as PERFECTION. This is definitively one of those 5. Everyone must have this recording. Great songs, great musicianship, great quality. History demonstrates that Elton's band is ELITE.
