Good early Batman story
It is a good post-Batman Year One series fleshing out the role Harvey Dent has in the early days of Batman and his eventual slide into becoming the villainous Two-Face. I am surprised I did not buy this when it was first released in the 1990s.

Batman meets the Godfather
This is a pretty good piece of work, but not quite as good as let's say, Year One. This could be thought of as a follow-up to Year One with some pretty ridiculous scenarios. I find it hard to believe that Batman faced that much of his "rogue gallery" during just one case. The only villain that gets a great deal of attention is Catwoman and she is treated pretty favorably. The rest of Batman's catalog are trivialized and are used mainly as his punching bag. I enjoy Tim Sale's artwork but it can be a bit much. The panels are well rendered but the exaggeration can be a bit, meh. For example, Catwoman's extremely (emphasize, extremely) chiseled abs are far too masculine. I can forgive Joker's eighty-eight eight-inch teeth because I interpret this as ... While Year One was a masterpiece because it had a consistent aura of gritty realism, Loeb and Sale seem to be pushing Batman back to a campy "cartoony" direction. It has a somewhat noir-gothic/Godfather edge, but it doesn't have the clear, economical storytelling that made Miller's and Mazzuchelli's such a reverberating achievement. Worth pointing out the history of Harvey Dent's transformation from clean, virtuous district attorney to his crazed alternate persona, Two-Face. Although it doesn't seem to be congruent with plot and character that Loeb created. A pretty good history of the character nonetheless. Also, why didn't the Gotham's greatest detective ever find out who the Holiday killer was? Overall, a good story about the dissolution of Gotham's organized crime ring and the rise of Gotham's "freaks".

After hearing up and down on the internet that this is one of the best Batman stories and that the next Batman movie, The Dark Knight was taking bits and pieces from it I figured I'd read it. Now I like Batman but never read any of the comics. I've read some Jeph Loeb written Marvel comics and wasn't impressed. "The Long Halloween" however kept me interested. I won't give the whole story away but it focuses on District Attorney Harvey Dent trying to take down the Falcone Crime family in Gotham city. One by one a Falcone member gets murdered on each holiday and the killer is thus dubbed, "Holiday." It's a murder mystery. While the story is pretty interesting and the dialogue is decent what had me really involved was how each holiday ... Overall I enjoyed the book and recommend it to anyone who remotely enjoys the Batman universe and it's giant list of villains who all make appearances. The hype surrounding it recently on the internet is a little much though.

This is one of the best Batman stories ever. The story itself is about Batman and a 13 holiday spree of a serial killer named, Holiday. The story is a great blend of Mobsters and Super Villains. Set after the events of Year One. Villains such as Joker, Riddler, Two Face, Poison Ivy and Catwoman clash with Batman as well as The Roman- Carmine Falcone, and members of his family. The stories focus goes between several characters aside from Batman, most prominently, Harvey Dent/Two Face. The Long Halloween has an influence on Nolan's The Dark Knight, and is an amazing graphic novel. While the art is alarming to some I find it to be stunning in the world Loeb and Sale present here.This is one of the best Batman stories ever.
